Re: xeon relative performance 1366/v1/v2/v3/v4

Are those PPD numbers per cpu or per system?

The 2660 is a 2 cpu system so points are for 2 cpus. All others are single cpu.

Power consumption is for the whole system, measured at the wall.

1366 is old technology I would suggest you pass on. Newer chips are more proficient. I still crunch with dual 5670's. One of these days I will sell it and get a newer system. With single chip cores getting higher, not really advantageous to build a dual configuration, unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket. AMD just announced there new server chips to give intel a run for there money. Am waiting on prices to decide. A 16 core/32 thread monster would be great to crunch with.

Re: xeon relative performance 1366/v1/v2/v3/v4

Well. so far, a dual Xeon V4-2698 ES (2x 20 cores/40 threads, running @ 2.3 GHz) vs a quad Opteron 6282SE (4x 16 cores/16 threads, running @2.6 GHz):

day 1: xeon 298k points, opteron 236k
day 2: xeon 260k points, opteron 190k
day 3: xeon 291k points, opteron 205k

But, the xeon machine uses about 300W in total - the opteron machine uses 750W. Noise levels are incomparable, the xeon machine is barely heard, the opteron one has a SuperMicro chassis, which even with quieter fans makes a lot of noise.
I think I'll keep them both - just over 1000 results per day makes me very happy.

Re: xeon relative performance 1366/v1/v2/v3/v4

It seems it was still ramping up then, the numbers now are

day 1 xeon 316 kPoints / 653 results, opteron 216 kPoints / 360 results
day 2 xeon 322 kPoints / 648 results, opteron 221 kPoints / 412 results
day 3 xeon 310 kPoints / 621 results, opteron 216 kPoints / 407 results

I'm very happy with that. The xeon is about 50% faster overall in points, and the ratio points/result looks a bit better too.

Re: xeon relative performance 1366/v1/v2/v3/v4

Welcome to the v4 team, you now have a top of the line cruncher :)

The Xeon is 3.4 times more efficient, that's a huge leap!
