Nobel Prize

Hello volunteers and other participants.

A simple question: Would the World Community Grid deserve a Nobel Prize or is this a dream? biggrin
There are thousands of anonymous people who do not earn anything in exchange directly.
I see no precedent in the history of humanity for a project to involve so many people ... Volunteers, researchers, employees in the field of computer science and others.
I venture to say yes, it can happen. At the very least deserves a petition for this!

Hugs to all, happy 2017!

Re: Nobel Prize

Well, first, WCG would need to be nominated for one of them. If I recall correctly, the Peace prize candidates can be nominated by pretty much anyone. Not all of the WCG projects are medical related and we're not really the actual discovers (that would be the scientists behind the project and analyzing the results) so Medicine is probably out. As for Peace, I supposed you could argue that by involving a large part of humanity in a common, united effort in humanitarian research, we are promoting peace. That would be the kind of recognition that would definitely get WCG some attention!

Re: Nobel Prize

I agree with keithenry !
The only reasonable prize would be the Peace prize but there is a lot of great humanists who should be awarded as well !
The best case would be, if a significant recognized discovery could be directly linked to some of the WCG contributions ! ... but we are probably far away of such day.
Less than a "Nobel Prize", I would appreciate if the media would as much speak about WCG as a great philanthropic initiative as they speak about Internet in relation to Bitcoin, "darknet", terrorism, illegal activities, etc.
It would be at first a great recognition for the supported projects, for the WCG tech team and for WCG members.
On my side, I am not participating for a Nobel prize wink
Enjoy,
Yves

Re: Nobel Prize

I think a Nobel Prize is possible. And cures for disease. We haven't made it onto the front pages yet but the scientists, with our support, are working hard for a bright day.
