Hi,
I recently downloaded the world community grid and my computer is running it successfully. Unfortunately, it is making my fan operate like crazy which is very loud. My fan usually only operates like this when I play a video game where my computer (i think) is required to use its CPU and GPU extensively. Is there anyway I can lower the demand of the world community grid so my fan will not operate as much? Thank you |

Update
I have figured it out, the option to lower demand is available in the computing preferences menu. |

Welcome to WCG.
----------------------------------------As well as the BOINC controls for processor usage there is TThrottle from eFMer for windows that sets usage based on temperature. See also The Community-maintained Frequently Asked Questions Index in Community-maintained FAQs forum. Paul.

I'd also suggest you open your computer case (thinking you have a desktop) and remove the dust. you find. The more dust there is, the less airflow, and the less airflow means heat stays in place, which forces the fan(s) to go faster and louder.
----------------------------------------If you get a can on compressed air it can help to remove the dust. If you have a laptop then don't try to open it up, but using a can of compressed air will also help. Best~ EDIT: If you blow the dust out of your computer, then I highly suggest you do so outside otherwise you are blowing dust into your home. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Seoulpowergrid at Nov 12, 2016 6:48:14 AM] |
