Hi. Getting restarted with WCG, after a long time away.
I have a different computer now (Dell Studio 1536 laptop), so don't have the software. I'm running Windows Vista x86. I checked various places on the site, but the earliest WCG software I could find is for Windows 7. There are various mentions of Vista, but I've seen nothing telling me where to get the software. Is there somewhere I can get WCG for Vista x86--or XP, because I can also run programs for that? Thanks much! I want to get going on this, while I've still got the motivation! :) |

Have you tried installing the WCG Windows software v7.2.47 from the WCG download page (it may well still work on Vista)? Alternatively, the Windows 32-bit recommended version 7.6.22 from the BOINC download site does work on Vista.

I have the same problem. I ran WCG on my Vista machine for year, but it stopped working a few months ago. I have tried to download a new version several times but I continue to get the message: "Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product World Community Grid. The Windows installer cannot continue."
I believe portions of the old program are still on my hard drive, but I cannot find a way to remove them. Any help would be appreciated. |

Googling shows a similar example from 2009 "Error uninstalling/reinstalling BOINC". I interpret that as saying that the original installation's MSI file was corrupt but a repair installation using the same BOINC version as the original could fix it, allowing uninstalling to then work; followed by downloading a newer version and successfully installing it. boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/ is a source for older WCG installers.
