I can't seem to add OpenZika to BOINC Manager. It doesn't appear to be available through either GridRepubplic or BAM. I was able to find an option for it under Settings, Device Manager, Device Profile on the WCG website, and it is selected, but it isn't being added to my list of projects in BOINC.

OpenZika is a sub-project of World Community Grid. If BOINC has WCG as a project then you should be eligible to receive OpenZika work units. A simpler way to control the sub-projects is from My Contribution -> My projects and ensure OpenZika is selected.

I don't know where "My Contribution" is. Also, BOINC tells me I'm using an outdated URL for one of the projects, but when I go to GridRepublic and try to edit my projects, it doesn't allow me to. I've tried in both Firefox and Chrome.
Really, I'm thinking of just deleting all of this software. The interfaces are varied and needlessly complicated. I can't figure out how to do the simplest of things, and I am not technologically illiterate. I don't understand why, after all the years WCG has been in existence, they can't all just get together and come up with one package, one piece of software, with a simplified interface that everyone can use, not just tech people and academics. I find the entire thing extremely off-putting. |

I'll keep it short and simple ( I hope):
----------------------------------------When you are signed into the forum just have a look close to the top of the website. There you can see the line starting with the logo and the words world community grid in bold colored letters (second line). Follow this line to the right end and you'll see "My Contribution". Click it. Then go down the first column until yoz find "My Projects" and click it. There you go. Enable the subprojects you want to support. Don't forget to hit the save button. Refresh in your boinc client and you'll be done. Nothing complicated.... |

Right, I've seen that page. Now, it has the Zika project selected. It wouldn't save the selection before.
But now that I have Zika selected, it doesn't seem to transfer to BOINC. When I look at Projects in the latter's Advanced View, it doesn't list it. Also, BOINC keeps telling me I'm using an old URL for LHC@Home, that I need to delete and reinstall it - but that project is being managed by GridRepublic, which won't allow me to edit my projects. |

All subprojects list as a single entry on the client... WorldCommunityGrid. No transferring is needed. Anytime your client asks WCG for work, the project server looks at your profile selection and then sends work accordingly, based on momentary availability. If none are available the client event log will tell you.

WCG has no business with LHC or GridRepublic. Latter is an account manager, where if you deselect LHC, it will remove the project from the client on next connect.

That's just it - GridRepublic won't allow me to edit my projects. I've tried using both Firefox (which I know is becoming increasingly incompatible with a lot of pages) and Chrome.
It's alright; I'm uninstalling the software. It's too taxing for my MacBook. When I'm not using it, I can hear the fan going nonstop to cool the processor while BOINC is running. Also, as I said above, they should have come up with a unified, easy to use interface by now. They've certainly had enough time. This piecemeal, open source approach is reminiscent of the early days of personal computing. They're trying to reach out to a wider community with software that is attractive mainly to academics, tech people and programmers. It shouldn't still, after all these years, be this buggy, nor should I have had to come to a forum to find out how to do these simple things. I may write an email, if I have the time and if I can find out to whom to send it. Thank you all for your help. |

This seems to be a gridrepublic problem and not a BOINC one.
----------------------------------------(for me I'd use BoincTasks) I wouldn't blame Microsoft for a problem with Adobe's software. Just saying. Sorry to see ya go. |

I think this is a bad idea: you have time limit to calculate the task. This time limit starts at the moment when server send to the client a notification about new task available. If we use the same rules of attempts to retry the download as we have now for uploading there will be a possibility that this task will be not finished in time. And such kind of 'temporary issue' may not be resolved during long time as we can see on some projects.
