IS Zika higher priority than all the other projects?
Seems like every time I check, all other projects are waiting in que while Zika files are being processed.. |

Hit the books and learn about how the client scheduler works... either FIFO or EDF, responding to your MinB and MaxAB [as often referenced acronyms].

I volunteer time on my machines, I don't intend to become a expert on the software as I am busy enough already...

Yes, it continues here https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,39277 ... too important to do even the slightest reading.

To be honest, that was kind of rude, and didn't answer his question. To properly answer you, Zika simply has a lot more workunits available, as such it's priority is not as important. If I fetch 3-4 tasks, 0-1 of them will be zika, for example. Your project queue size under BOINC manager and if you have other projects besides WCG will dictate the true priority. You can also opt in to all projects except Zika.

Neither of your "answers" had anything to do with the question. "Hit the books and learn about how the client scheduler works... either FIFO or EDF, responding to your MinB and MaxAB [as often referenced acronyms]." I've programmed in both machine and assembly since 1980. Learning the client scheduler for something I do on a voluntary basis is not a priority. If your two responses are typical, perhaps i've chosen unwisely.. |

IS Zika higher priority than all the other projects? Seems like every time I check, all other projects are waiting in que while Zika files are being processed.. Scheduling priorities by the techs is as much an art as a skill. They try to determine a balance of all the projects probably based on the number of WU available and how much time they think that project should get in the overall mix. They need to balance those crunchers who are exclusively doing one project along with those who opt into everything. It should not be surprising if they tweak the settings on a fairly regular basis. Cheers

His observation was "Seems like every time I check, all other projects are waiting in que [sic] while Zika files are being processed..." which has absolutely nothing to do with the order and frequency the tasks are issued by the server [Sgt.Joe elaborates a bit on that]. This is about the client, BOINC work scheduling decisions, for which the key handle words were provided. As is observed in the linked thread, either one formulates the question precisely and then do some reading [clearly no effort was taken, or was willing to be taken, so the response to my first post indicated] The search box right top would have popped up previous posts and leads on the issue, where again, the formulation of the observation to the question hints on there being problems with several client settings [MinB/MaxAB]. For those willing to read start at https://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/ClientSched
