Hi, my BOINC client is continuing to start new WCG tasks (4 so far) that seem to appear from nowhere even though all projects are set to "no new tasks". I've been using BOINC for years and this has never happened before. I'm trying to complete the tasks I have so I can get use of my computer again but whenever they near completion something new shows up. Have tried reseting BOINC & rebooting.

If you have selected WCG in the project view of the BOINC Manager and hit the 'No new tasks' button, it changes to the option 'Allow new tasks' and the event log (Ctrl+Shft+E to open) shows
----------------------------------------World Community Grid 6/6/2016 8:43:33 AM work fetch suspended by user If you hit the 'Allow new tasks' button it changes to 'No new tasks' and the event log prints World Community Grid 6/6/2016 8:43:53 AM work fetch resumed by user If the log does not have these entries, you did maybe hit the button without selecting WCG first. Then the button is grayed out, and no action is taken as then the client does not know to which project this applies. Resetting / rebooting does nothing to the how the controls are set. The former will merely erase all work already on the device. [Edit 1 times, last edit by SekeRob* at Jun 6, 2016 6:51:33 AM] |

Log says "World Community Grid" "Not requesting tasks: "no new tasks" requested via manager". All projects say "won't get new tasks". Yet it still keeps doing it. I've had to put 20% processor and 0.1 work then keep looking to see if its started something new and abort it.

So does the button in BOINC Manager [Advanced View] Project tab say "No new tasks" or does it say "Allow new tasks" for WCG?
----------------------------------------To stop WCG for sure you can also select "Suspend". The button will then change to 'Resume', for the next time if you change your mind. BTW, toggling the buttons sometimes helps the bits to be set right. Edit: One more question... what is the exact client version you have this with? One other possibility is that Stratt has selected the option on the Tasks tab to "Show Active Tasks". In that case Stratt could have several tasks waiting in the queue to be processed but they wouldn't show up on the task listing. The button in question will toggle between "Show Active Tasks" and "Show All Tasks".
It has happened to me after an accidental click more than once. |

Thought of that, but then he wrote
"then keep looking to see if its started something new and abort it." If there were hidden tasks and aborted a newly started, he'd see any buffered task start almost immediately. |
