When you get a Beta, SUSPEND all other "ready to start" WUs. Then SUSPEND one of the "running" WUs. After the Bata begins running, UNSUSPEND all of the tasks. The Beta will run to completion and the one suspended RUNNING task will resume running.

The Beta will run to completion and the one suspended RUNNING task will resume running. To add to this in case you are attached to projects other than WCG as well and those projects are allowed to fetch work. Set the Network activity to Suspend before doing what Shaky Jake suggests, otherwise the other projects will request work to fill the cache space that the suspended WCG tasks just vacated. After resuming all of the WCG tasks, you can set the Network activity back to the previous setting. |

I have used my technique a number of times and my Boinc event log says that it will not download additional WUs while I have any suspended WUs.
I am running Boinc 7.2.42 (x64) on a PC with Linux Mint 17.3 64 bit. |

Your/BobCat13 (manual) technique applies to the (Umbrella) project against which a task is suspended. If you have other non-zero resource share active projects attached, e.g. malariacontrol.net, then those will back fill your cache.
----------------------------------------The crux is what you wrote though "SUSPEND all other" ready to start" WUs." will indeed stop any and all fetching. Setting the buffer to zero would achieve that too, but to manually overrule the scheduling order, you'd still need to suspend any task of any project that was fetched before the Betas arrived... FIFO rule, [hint] if there is no artificial panic... a forced EDF state. [Edit 2 times, last edit by SekeRob* at Jun 3, 2016 6:06:21 PM] |
