Solved - Linux Debian 8 - BOINC not working with WCG since begining of the year

The 5 following of my computers are running on Windows but will be back to Linux (Debian 8) in a few days.

1 x FX-9590 (8 x 5 GHz)
1 x X2 4200+
3 x Core 2 Quad (Q8400 2.6GHz, Q9400 2,6GHz, Q9300 2,5GHz)

It means that the 5 lasts of my computers working on WCG will join my computers that are unable to work on WCG for several month now (may be around the beginning of the 2016 year ? I don't remember very well).
On my Linux computers, communication with WCG was not working anymore (unable to send completed task, get new ones etc...) and all are still unable to add WCG project even in a new fresh install, even today (Sun 22 May 2016 11:42:02 AM CEST | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site)

I created another account when I first noticed the problem, to be double sure that the problem isn't with my account, but it wasn't working, so I quickly connected all of those computers to SETI instead of WCG, waiting for WCG to be back on Linux.

1 x another Q9300 2,5GHZ
2 x Core 2 Duo (mobiles versions, I don't remember very well their names)
1 x Phenom x4 9550 2,2GHz
2 x Pentium 4 3GHz H.T
1 x Xeon e3 1220v2
1 x Athlon 64 3000+
1 x Athlon 64 X2 6000+
1 x Sempron 3000+
1 x E5-4200H
1 x Athlon XP 2000+

I never read anything about that, my position was (and still is) : I'm not willing to waste lot of my time if a project stops working without explanation when the others project are still working well.
But it's frustrating as I read nothing about WCG retired on Linux platforms... as if I'm the only man on earth who encounter this problem ! All searchs gives scary old or uninteresting results, and what doesn't help me to do an effort : nobody answers to "Contact Us" form.

I also have 3 x Pi2 working on Asteroids or Universe I don't remember
And an Orange Pi2 with a heatsink crunching on Android / WCG, and at this point, I'm even questioning about let it work on WCG

Is it just official that it doesn't work anymore on Linux platforms ? Or Am-I the only one ?
If it's official, why is it not clear ? Like GPU support : there is no GPU support for years and years now, but it's written nowhere, apart from browsing into thousands of unofficial forum's blah blah : how can it be the correct approach !?

Thank you in advance and sorry for annoyance !

Re: Linux Debian 8 - BOINC not working with WCG since begining of the year

If the error message is about the CRT bundle, this entry from FAQs could be of interest:

Re: BOINC: Peer certificate cannot be authenticated (Debian 8.3)
One solution for this on Debian

Remove the ca-bundle.crt link in the boinc data directory that points to /etc (The Debian install puts the data directory in /var/lib/boinc-client/ and in that directory after install there is a symbolic link ca-bundle.crt which points to the ca-bundle.crt file in /etc)
Download ca-bundle.crt from BOINC and copy it to the boinc data directory.
Restart the boinc client.

From http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,38805 where more detail and background can be found. Specifically the problem is/was with Debian Jessie. My Ubuntu has seen uninterrupted service.

Re: Linux Debian 8 - BOINC not working with WCG since begining of the year

I recently installed BOINC on my computer with debian 8

And since I can't add WCG as a project:

So 29 Mai 2016 00:31:28 CEST | | Fetching configuration file from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/get_project_config.php
So 29 Mai 2016 00:31:50 CEST | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
So 29 Mai 2016 00:31:52 CEST | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

Is this related to the certificate problem? i never got any error message mentioning a certificate issue so..

If you confirmed you can attach to any non-https requiring project, then yes this most likely the reason, but to emphasize, the work download problem was for Debian Jessie.

Re: Linux Debian 8 - BOINC not working with WCG since begining of the year

Hi,

Sorry for the delay, I was busy and focused on a lot of others things
Thank you all for the answers

I just tried a new time and now, the problem is solved !

"Debian has fixed this issue in their update on June 4th. https://www.debian.org/News/2016/20160604 (see the OpenSSL comments)."

Proud to put back all my toys working back on WCG starting from today, especially the FX-9590 one :)
