Welcome Carolina,
----------------------------------------As I'm sure you'll have done your due-diligence on WCG, you'll already know that we're a friendly and helpful bunch here - always willing to help out with important work such as yours. Things seem to have started well for you and your project - so lets hope that this continues, allowing you and your team to start making good use of the results we're all returning and find a way to tackle this nasty virus. Best of luck - and keep the communication (and WU's) flowing |

I was thrilled and delighted to see OpenZika come to Rutgers, my alma mater. When a friend told me Alex was coming to Rutgers, I was hoping something like this would happen. I tried to reach out to him via email. I enlisted my neighbor who is Dean of the Rutgers Honor College.
----------------------------------------Someone saw the news on Flipboard on his tablet and said, "Your wish has come true!" So, I got the Rutgers article and the opening article from the project and did a post on my blog. Here is the link for anyone interested: https://sciencesprings.wordpress.com/2016/05/...-power-of-supercomputing/ |

Good evening mitrichr,
Thank you very much! I am sorry that I never saw your initial email. If you sent it to my previous scripps.edu address, that might explain it (since it was deactivated soon after I switched jobs). If not, then perhaps a spam filter was a bit too aggressive? On the subject of Rutgers, I recently switched my World Community Grid team membership from my undergraduate alma mater (the University of Missouri, Columbia) to Rutgers. But there aren't many people on that team yet. We should try to help fix that. ;) Thank you again for your support and for helping to spread the word about our new OpenZika project!! Cheers, Dr. Alex L. Perryman |

Good evening Apis_Tintinnambulator,
Likewise! It's good to see that you are still contributing your crunching power to World Community Grid! Regarding trying to boost the total amount of resources that WCG can provide to our project (and other projects), Joel Freundlich and I have been trying to spread the news. See the following links: videos = http://www.fios1news.com/newjersey/zika-research-app#.Vz4hBMj3aJI http://newjersey.news12.com/news/rutgers-univ...-zika-research-1.11816750 articles = http://www.northjersey.com/news/rutgers-resea...-help-stop-zika-1.1601659 Associated Press article = http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/article78566387.html http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/may/...in-zika-research-project/ http://www.nj.com/healthfit/index.ssf/2016/05...lp_rutgers_tackle_th.html http://newjersey.news12.com/news/rutgers-scie...search-project-1.11816750 http://www.worldpharmanews.com/development/34...e-power-of-supercomputing http://www.cnbc.com/2016/05/18/fight-zika-by-...into-a-supercomputer.html There should be a link for the Fox5 NY news clip (which was their lead story at 6:00), but I can't find it yet. Cheers, Dr. Alex L. Perryman |

Dr Perryman-
----------------------------------------Thanks for acknowledging my entry on this thread. I am an ex-cruncher. I was felled by heat killing three computers and by a case of crunching induced OCD. But I amassed 37,000,000 BOINC credits in my time, putting me in the 99th percentile of all BOINC of all time, so says BOINCStats. So, Public Distributed Computing, WCG, and BOINC are still close to my heart. I support on my blog every project that has news in social media. One of the first projects I remember at WCG was Help Defeat Cancer, http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/hdc/overview.do , which was carried out at Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Ironically, my wife is now a patient there. I hope that your time at RWJ/Rutgers is rewarding for you, for us, and for the Zika fighters around the world. |
