I'm not sure why you have a problem with heavy metals for use in solar cells - the aim of the project isn't to create a solar cell which is bio-degradable or non-toxic.
If you look at the project pages, it says that they're testing carbon based compounds. The compounds given at the top of the thread contain carbon so come under the project scope. The aim is to "provide inexpensive solar cells" and to "increase the efficiencies and lifetimes of these photovoltaics". The clean part of the project title is compared to fossil fuels. |

There seem to be paint-solutions already, but their efficiency requires large surfaces. [Not original], but it tickles my fancy to one day have a big roll of organic-based solar sheet, 10 meters wide, 30 meters long, on a motorized spindle. When the daylight has enough 'force', make it roll out on the lawn along rails, amass the photaic energy into Lithium-Polymer batteries, or anything better, and when needed, use it up. Only when batteries are chock-full, feed excess back to the grid. [It seems in the US various lobbyist got politicians to invent taxes to make it expensive again].
Would it bother me if a pinch of this or that gets added to optimize output. NO. After use, recycle... that's jobs too. |

Getting back to the original topic of this thread.
I had two WUs recently fail, one with Germanium, and one with Selenium: E236352_ 423_ S.232.C22H13N3S2Se1.YRQUTBCVXPHVNF-UHFFFAOYSA-N.16_ s1_ 14_ 3-- Both failed with "(unknown error) - exit code 195 (0xc3)" by all participants, and the server stopped sending out more copies of the WU. So there is definitely a problem with these. |

The question -On Topic- is, has anyone seen any GE containing task succeed, and if not the question to the techs is "why are these still being circulated?"

I agree: these Ge-containing workunits should be removed. But at least they fail immediately, which minimizes the aggravation factor.
The same can't be said for several selenium-containing workunits I've had recently, which crash after 10-12 hours. Samples: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/devi....do?workunitId=1647360556 https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/devi....do?workunitId=1644750050 |

Please post the contents if you care... |
