Re: TEAM: Fans of "The Register" JOIN Vulture Central III now! Part 2

Here's our current page at DC Vault.

http://dc-vault.com/showteam.php?team=349

The effort is rolled together as "Vulture Central". Fingerle fixed Folding@Home, so the six active teams are now in there. That moved us up from 117th to 106.

Vulture Central (Seti)
Vulture Central II (Grid)
Vulture Central III (WCG)
Vulture Central IV (Dimes)
Vulture Central VI (Folding@Home)
Vulture Central VII (D2OL)

Vulture Central V was at Find-a-Drug, which closed.

We always could use more members, you know.

Re: TEAM: Fans of "The Register" JOIN Vulture Central III now! Part 2

The people re-siding our house said that they would put the phone line behind the siding to make it "look better". In the meantime, the wire got sliced or cut somewhere, and now it's dead phone line behind the siding.

Since I have *two* telephone lines in that room, I was able to recable the computers to the other line. Unfortunately, that means I now have 3 computers on the same line and one in another room on the same line. It will take longer to send up the data since the computers call in one at a time, but at least it is alive until the other line can be fixed. The computers are now out of that circuit entirely to show that they are not part of the problem. I was able to call in this morning on the primary phone line to send in some workunits.

Re: TEAM: Fans of "The Register" JOIN Vulture Central III now! Part 2

That's 4 red stars for me

i have placed an order for a new dually for myself with view to linux boinc wcg vult cent III how many more points (perday?) do we need for team to break top 100?
That should help a lot, especially if you keep both sides busy with the BOINC client. Get an AMD if you can. They are great crunchers. My 2.4GHz machines do about the same as a Pentium 3.2GHz.

The #100 team overall has this right now,
IBM EMEA SO/SD community 5,369,481
and we're 4,941,306 (#109).

They are not crunching as fast
02/24/2006 0:012:00:46:36 8,506 29
so we are gaining on that particular team. They do even less on weekends. Somebody else will probably be there at #100 when we're ready to catch up.

#100 in points for today is
IBM Winnipeg 24,191

We'd have to do more than this each day to advance.
Our top crunch ever was 29,374 points. For awhile we were gaining a place or two each day, but at the current rate we have leveled off. Chieftain had about 9,000 per day when he first got here, but could have assigned a few computers to something else. crying ghunt is adding some power also. I have 3 fast computers and one slow one, which is about as much as I can fit in here for both space and electricity.

We had a decent day today with 24,087 points, which is very close. This 101st fastest is almost about on average what the top 100 team would crunch every day....if they do it every day.
and our 37th best day ever. Most other days have been in the 20,000 point range recently though, not enough to gain.

I am very surprised that we have no new members since the first week of January, since I am trying to keep the team visible in the threads.

You do a commendable job of keeping your teams visibility up there retsof, you're quite the team member indeed. wink

I don't think new members can do wrong by joining your team.

Go Vultures!

thanx retsof u have helped me decide, my order is "soft" ie i have told the shop guy i WILL buy either a pent 3.0 ghz dual or an amd duall 2800 jobby, i was gonna finalise the deal today but as i am on call for the hospital i am too stressed to leave home "in case i get paged for an emergency" my feeling was / is to go for the amd i have firm prices for both options but i was not 100% sure which, most advice says go for amd so thanx for your opinion, i hope to go to the shop on tuesday my day off and get things rolling, cheers ( am going for suse 10 linux i hope) i have d/l and burned iso cd in preparation and plan it to be crunch machine mainly plus a chance to look at linux / boinc(?) and save $ on NOT pay for yet another windows xp cd and word and antivirus and firewall the list goes on.. cheers, ps i hope for my 2nd red star here in a couple of weeks, i see you "distribute" your work between various projects, hmmm i aim for one core on wcg vult 3 not sure about 2nd core anyway will all be good cheers
