Newbie to WCG

Good day everyone, well finally did the deed, downloaded WCG on Monday, it's been 2 days now, received some points yesterday, but haven't received any since, my friend told me this isn't normal, and told me to contact support. Still don't see my name on the team list / Global Compumatrix !! Should I worry ?............................Cheers Dan !!

Welcome aboard. Check your Results Status. I think you'll find completed work going into "Pending Validation". That's pretty common when you first start out. Sometimes, a project will have two people complete the same workunit to ensure that the results are accurate since two people should have the same result. Some don't so the workunit validates when you return it.

Re: Newbie to WCG

Welcome dan51, whenever a newbie joins (or, for that matter, a new machine is added to someone who's been around for a very long time), that machine needs to be "checked" to ensure that the results that it returns, are valid. This is standard, and normal practice - and thus, for a short period, no matter what science your machine is working on (or 'crunching'), there'll be two copies sent out - the second, to act as a verification check. After a short time your machine will be proven to produce results on its own - and thus, for certain projects (I just forget exactly which - OET & CEP2 being two examples), they'll receive just a single copy that can be sent directly back to the researches.

So, basically what I'm attempting to say, is that, for a short period of time, all the results your computer returns will more than likely go into what's called "Pending Validation" - and will only turn valid once that second copy has been returned and shown to match. You'll be able to see these awaiting validation on your Results page.

Also worth noting, is that WCG updates the statistics twice daily - once at 12:00 and again at 0:00 UTC. The midnight stats tend to take longer (as it's also recalculating all the Teams stats), so they're generally available ~1.5 hrs later (this is only a rough estimate - it can take longer or shorter).

Anyhow, once again, welcome. If you have any further questions (or indeed, need someone to interpret what I've posted), don't be afraid to ask, this is a friendly place to visit with a lot of people willing to offer their help.
