You can use app_config to set the total max_concurrent jobs allowed to run for WCG or you can play with % CPU processors and more to still partially use the CPU for WCG.

Do any of you have the best setting for using GPU processing on a laptop?

Use Tthrottle. It will automatically scale either GPU or CPU computation to maintain a maximum specified temperature.
