Be warned that there's a known problem in the free version of TeamViewer 11.0.52465: a remote-control session times out after 2 or 3 hours, irrespective of the setting under Options / Advanced for "Timing out inactive session". TeamViewer Support have acknowledged the problem but haven't given a timescale for solving it. Some commentators are seeing it as a crippling of the free version, but that's not been confirmed.
The timeout is annoying in that it requires several mouse-clicks and re-entry of a password to reconnect, but it doesn't damage anything running on the remote machine. |

Thanks for the warning. My TeamViewer sessions rarely last more than a half-hour, but I'll not upgrade until I see there is a fix.

Nice to know, but I am never on it that long. I just use it to check to see if the machines are still running properly and then exit. Very handy for this. Cheers

Also remember that the Teamviewer staff may consider a 2-3 hour continuous session to be a "Business, Premium or Corporate use" type of activity. If so, Teamviewer may time out any session as that may not be deemed to be a "personal" use event.

That would be a new criterion for personal or private use. TeamViewer's definition of private use is "... any use of TeamViewer for purposes that are neither directly nor indirectly paid" and "... a use of TeamViewer with family and friends without any financial compensation is considered private use."
I certainly don't get any financial compensation for remotely controlling my own computer in a different room in the same house! |

Seems to me that using an older version that doesn't time out would be the solution. Just sayin.

Yeah, but the older versions don't work as well with Windows 10

hmmm, how/where to get the older versions?
Just ended a session at 19:10 which was started at 11:45 from W7 to W8.1 to copy 4GB from W7 to W8.1, in reverse started the copy session on W8.1 through explorer, getting them from the W7, then forgot all about it. We went cycling and at the lunch point started a Teamviewer session from Android tablet to the W7, no password asked, wham, straight in and saw the W7 to W8 was still active, running the copying at crawl speed. Version 10.0.47484 thusly does not suffer any of the discussed. Strangely, normally TeamViewer offers to upgrade when a newer version is available, but it has not. Neither for the W10 machine, which was upgraded [downgraded really] from W8.1 to W10 few months ago, short for: not encountering the issue, but will keep an eye out to not go for 11.n when such an upgrade push would occur. Aside, usually I go in and out in under 15 minutes, so the 2-3 hour time-out would not affect me [if idle sessions get killed, good as it's to me a security issue]. |

I certainly don't get any financial compensation for remotely controlling my own computer in a different room in the same house! That limit only comes up when/if/after your are flagged with the "Commercial Use Suspected" notices. Excessive use may or may not flag that issue or so I have been told by Teamviewer. From my conversation with Teamviewer, going in for 15-20 minutes would not constitute business or commercial use unless direct or indirect financial compensation is expected. |
