Does this fit in the WCG mission statement? Now if any authority would send out sets of privacy sensitive files out to the unknown for indexing and cross-referencing, we might be able to read those files, and send them to the local paper for some juice stories. Short for: Don't think so.

For the moment, I can't think of a scenario that the WCG could help the authorities with (that doesn't mean there isn't one, it's just I can't think of one right now). The way the WCG works is that the "authorities" would have to come to WCG with their plan on how the WCG can help them. WCG doesn't start/initiate the projects, the scientists/researchers come to WCG with their ideas and algorithms and WCG sets up the environment that permits the scientist's projects to exist.

The supercomputers at the NSA can probably run circles around the WCG.

LoL ![]() ![]() ![]() Yeti@Home ??? ![]() ![]() CJSL PS: didn't even know there was a Yeti@Home ![]() Crunching for a better world... well, SETi@home is a good project...nice to run on GPUs! keeps my GPU busy... even though we can only detect aliens from 50-100ly away (if they are using similar equipment we have for FM/AM radio or TV signal - my calcs)... ![]() but, Arecibo only covers about 1/3 of the sky...& can't wait a SKA to build, so that we can cover some southern sky... ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by KLiK at Nov 24, 2015 7:00:32 AM] |
