This one is $274US with free shipping. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182967R This would be tempting to set up if I had the time and funds to do so. I have heard tell that this socket will support the new Xeon E5 V4 chips. I have seen a 2699 V4 running on an X10SRA board, so I assume that this DP board will also run the V4 chips. Is that a fair assumption to make? Depends on which BIOS is shipped with the board. If it has the latest your good to go. If it doesn't you'll need a haswell(V3) chip to update the BIOS before you can use the broadwell(V4) chip.
In 1969 I took an oath to defend and protect the U S Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and Domestic. There was no expiration date.

Nice. I have a V3 chip if I need to use it, so it should work out fine.
Now to wait for the V4 chips. |

Pulled the trigger on a pair of the 2670 v1 procs. With shipping + customs, came out to ~$200 for the two. Also got 64 (8x8) GB of RAM for ~$200 and in total with all of the other parts, looking at around a $1250 system build. That amount of RAM is because it'll also be a virtualization lab for me, but judging from my current virtualization setup, I'll be able to dedicate at least 28 threads to this. Can't get much more price effective than that, eh?
----------------------------------------I'll have to see power consumption of this with a video card on PCI passthrough. If it's decent and I can throw another one on the circuit, I'll do another build in a couple of months. ![]() AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (8 cores/16 threads)@3.85 GHz, 32 GB RAM 7x Dual Intel Xeon E5-2640 (2 x 6 cores/12 threads)@2.5 GHz, 256 GB RAM |

All of my hardware came in and I'm now doing my initial burn in of this server to verify everything is in working order.
----------------------------------------http://i.imgur.com/NkdINFb.jpg I'll post the device stats for this after a couple of days once they've normalized and I've gathered enough. But it looks like this trend of buying these processors is starting to pick up steam: http://www.techspot.com/review/1155-affordable-dual-xeon-pc/page8.html ![]() AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (8 cores/16 threads)@3.85 GHz, 32 GB RAM 7x Dual Intel Xeon E5-2640 (2 x 6 cores/12 threads)@2.5 GHz, 256 GB RAM [Edit 1 times, last edit by Cmdrd at Apr 5, 2016 5:51:53 PM] |

I would actually buy that if it weren't for the other components that I would need to buy. But yea, sounds like a nice deal. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |
