I stumbled on this article today and thought that you guys may be interested: http://www.servethehome.com/intel-xeon-e5-2670-v1-prices-still-plummeting/. After taking a poke around Ebay I found numerous E5-2670 V1's available for $200-$250 CDN, which comes out to under $200 USD for an 8 core (16 thread) processor @ 2.6 GHZ (Turbo to 3.3). If you're in the market for compute power, these are definitely a solid bet.
----------------------------------------Figured this would be the best place to post. Taking a look through BOINCStats and Free-DC, the stats for dual 2670 V0 systems are around the 17k BOINC PPD, or ~120k WCG PPD. ![]() AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (8 cores/16 threads)@3.85 GHz, 32 GB RAM 7x Dual Intel Xeon E5-2640 (2 x 6 cores/12 threads)@2.5 GHz, 256 GB RAM |

Just looked at that link,
----------------------------------------the prices have continued to fall, some around $150 USD. A dual socket with these chips would DOUBLE my production! ![]() |

According to PC Part Picker, the only Motherboard that can handle two of these is almost $500. You don't get much savings moving down to just one socket. Am I missing something? Do you all just have high end specialized motherboards sitting around?

Hi, Dayle,
----------------------------------------There aren't a lot of dual-socket LGA2011 boards out there, but there's an important server board that pcpartpicker fails to mention, which is the ASUS Z9PA-D8. It's priced around $330, which is good for a dual-socket board. Be careful to look for the Z9PA-D8, NOT the Z9PE-D8, which is almost $500. ![]() ![]() Crunchers: 1: Xeon E5-2695 v3 @ 2.5GHz turbo (14C/28T) 2: Xeon E5-2658 v3 @ 2.3GHz turbo (12C/24T) 3: Ryzen 7 1700 @ 3.675GHz OC (8C/16T) 4: Core i7-4700MQ @ 3.2GHz cTDP up (4C/8T) [Edit 1 times, last edit by Kasey Domer at Feb 28, 2016 7:49:11 AM] |

The Asus board that I had and another friend had were both returned with issues. Look for open box specials at Newegg.

If anyone is interested I'll be selling some XEON E5-2683 V3 chips soon. They are 14c/28t QEY7 engineering samples. They run 2.3 GHz under full load and are 120 watt TPD. A pair of these running 56 cores at WCG will pull about 270 watts at the wall. Pretty good core/watts ratio.

I have heard tell that this socket will support the new Xeon E5 V4 chips. I have seen a 2699 V4 running on an X10SRA board, so I assume that this DP board will also run the V4 chips. Is that a fair assumption to make? |
