Re: Run dry already?

I was wondering why nobody else was posting on this, I have some boxes that are dry already, and haven't even gotten a reply on the last issue from a week ago yet. Is it possible the admins are off for the holidays? confused

Re: Run dry already?

I can't help with the older issue, but my boxes filled up with new work today by 15:30 GMT after a resends-only spell.

Yes, they did - as soon as Keith appeared back.

Re: Run dry already?

hmmm, a member with near 1000 years contribution is not important to listen up... no double spacing lines, triple or gargantuan shouting font works it seems ;>)

Let's do some Q&A (and we know this started with the already mentioned logograte issue, or whatever it was called, some months ago, yes some months ago)

1) Is it all clients, or just specific [exact version please... which work,m which hang?]

2) Could you work around this by copying the hung files from a working device to the project sub directory [TeamViewer, for free, is my choice tool to do this]. Do stop the clients first, after suspending the client networking.

Sorry, it just gets frustrating at times when the boxes are running and have no work.

This particular victim is WinXP X64 running boinc 7.2.42 on an AMD FX-8150, but it has also shown up on Win 7 X64, Win 8.1 X64 and Win 10 X64 running various boinc installs from 7.2.28 to 7.6.9 ( which didn't seem to alleviate the problem either). The easiest fix seems to be aborting the stuck dwnlds and keep updating until it gets work, but requires constant babysitting to catch the problem when it arises. Not sure if it's coincidence, but seems to occur about the same time the WU's run dry, like right now again. :(

Re: Run dry already?

Welllllll, the best bet to go forward and not wait on the sound of silence, or knocking heads through doors is really really copy those 'sticky' files across from a working system. In steps:

Delete the failing downloads, and before it can call new copies, switch network off, then stop client(s). Copy known good copies across of the 2 .png in question. Start client (s), allow connection. Good chance is, the client sees the files are already there and wont ask again.

Why it happens after a dry... not sure, but there's a mechanism to erase bits of a science app [questionable housekeeping], and then re-download when new work is there. Upgrade client, detach from WCG, and add WCG again may fix an inconsistent project files set.

Re: Run dry already?

Thanks, RetiredTech.

About five minutes after your post the WUs started flowing again.

Re: Run dry already?

Yes they did. But they've stopped again. One of my crunchers has only 1 WU in the cache. Regards.
