Hi:
Would it be feasible to promote the WCG site on a PC hardware related website like Tom's Hardware to increase the exposure of WCG to gamers who have high end CPU and GPU that will really kick ass on the work units on here? I myself found WCG by stumbling upon it by accident. In my view, WCG really needs to promote itself more. Clive Hunt P.S. Many hands make light work |

it would be nice to promote BOINC & WCG...also, u can get a badge for your suggestions on WCG:
----------------------------------------https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewNewsArticle.do?articleId=384 though, bear in mind we don't have ANY GPU apps on BOINC...so u can promote other projects like SETi@home, asteroids@home, GPUgrid, etc. (also, that means you want get BIASED towards WCG only!) hope it answers ur questions? |

Yea I think WCG could definitely use a better promotion strategy and BOINC in general. Most people about 99% have never heard of this distributed computing for science stuff when I mention it.
The only reason I know about it is because I used to own first generation PS3 and it came with folding @ home software pre-installed. Then when that got removed after awhile I did more research into it and found BOINC etc... |

It would certainly be a good place to find people who are looking to test their hardware, push it to the limits, and show it off/compete with others... Although, there are also the camp of gamers who wouldn't want anything to impede their game performance, and simply pausing BOINC or configuring it to suspend while the computer was in use would be seen as too much of an inconvenience to them. I've tried getting people to join BOINC over the years in various small-time game and clan forums, I think I only got two people who did for a short time then quit.
----------------------------------------BOINC promotion is a rough struggle, I don't think it has enough of a populist appeal. It's a problem that needs the attention of some marketing and publicity gurus. |
