Re: WCGrid or MaidSafe?

I feel tempted to drop WCGrid for MaidSafe when the latter goes public. Any thoughts?
Let's talk when it goes public (ie. when there's something there to talk about.).
how about let's not so we can focus on what we are trying to accomplish.

While I am not calling the OP a troll, this is another of what I call a "troll thread", where someone posts a ridiculous statement or question, serving only to raise the ire of as many readers as possible, and then fails to participate in any discussion, while readers rush to add their disagreement with the absentee OP. Troll threads, the third most popular sport here at the WCG forums.

Re: WCGrid or MaidSafe?

You make a good point and w/o doubt are largely correct in your assessment. My reason for responding was the fact that the OP appears to be a long time member so I'm inclined to give such people the benefit of the doubt and limit my comments to questioning the wisdom, or lack of same, behind such a post.

The only people I feel obliged to be less than charitable toward are people who post but based on join date and a lack of badges seem more likely to qualify as trolls.

Of course trolls come in all guises, even from people you would think would be responsible and trustworthy. I just prefer not to assume that sort of attitude in the case of long time volunteers.

Re: WCGrid or MaidSafe?

I'm sorry if you felt unloyalty to WCGrid from my part. I think I might have been somewhat provocative in the way I was asking for advice. The thing from MaidSafe that caught my attention most was the possibility of keeping data secure and without the need for backups. I hope as previously suggested that MaidSafe doesn't require much CPU time, but mostly bandwidth and storage and that both could be used together or maybe it will be a flop and then I'll stick to WCGrid as always.

I would NEVER trust MaidSafe or anyone else with my data no matter how "secure" they claim it will. Backups stored at my house on my hardware is the only secure data storage facility I will ever use. JMHO.

nanoprobe, I'm in total agreement with you - I'm in total control of my data and the resultant backup's. No matter how "safe" and "secure" a company claims to be in keeping backup's, you're putting your trust in a third party. What I would like to add though, is that I hope your backup policy includes keeping a copy "offsite" (e.g, encrypted at a friends, relatives house - or even a bank safety deposit box), just in case of unforeseen events. I won't tempt fate here, although I'm sure you can imagine what some of them may be.

Absolutely right on.

Precisely. When I realized the most important are the data stored in my PC and backed up only localy, I bought an external HDD and now I am carrying all my backups with me. Just in case chicken
