Hello fellow crunchers,
----------------------------------------I have recently posted a question on Ubuntu forums, but I was hoping that maybe one of you had tried to install Ubuntu on Windows 8.1. My first question was that it seems that the newest version of 15.04 does not have the same issues as the previous versions. As mentioned in this Ubuntu forum post it seems that I do not need to try to disable UEFI: http://askubuntu.com/questions/221835/install...bit-system-uefi-supported My other question is that when getting to the point of installing Ubuntu. I am comfortable enough creating a live-usb. After getting to the step where I choose which installation to select most of the time its either "along side" or "something else". If I choose along side I think that the partitions that Ubuntu needs are going to be installed by Ubuntu, while "Something else" will allow you to manually select them. That leads me to the other question. If I need to create the partitions just how many and which sizes do they need to be? I have tried following the official Ubuntu installation guide, but they only have it for Windows 7, and then I tried following this one: http://linux.about.com/od/LinuxNewbieDesktopG...al-Boot-Guide.htm#showall If I can install 15.04 along site the boot loader does step 10 of that guide (where it mentions that partition 6 ext and partition swap 7 will be created) would that over write the windows boot loader and replace it with Grub Ubuntu loader? I already create a question on Ubuntu forums, but I was hoping that I could get a more detailed answer from this chat group and hopefully someone faced the issues that I am currently having. Thank you for your help. ![]() |

Thank you for your help. It has been my experience the Windows boot loader is overwritten or no longer operational. If you uninstall Ubuntu, the boot loader still remains and if you are successful at deleting that boot loader, loading Windows may still be an issue to overcome. |
