Re: Suggestion for a yearly donations of electricity?

This has been discussed so many times. The cost to WCG to maintain a legally acceptable certificate for the locale, your country, would likely outstrip any tax-detectability. Whence it was said a 'standard' print-it-yourself' certificate would be created [think it was close to being implemented], then for whatever reason shied away from, shelved, at least it must be 3 or more years ago last word or even a reply on the matter was answered.

If you think you can pass it off, you can use the standard certificate of other projects [Malaria, Rosetta to name a few] and testcase theirs. Think there's even a way to print a certificate with all the project contributions on it. Doubt though you'll find any taxman accepting, lest it is a local charity and sure as heck, WCG is not going to register in your country.

v.v Qualifying of deductions, here's an opine from a US perspective: http://www.accountingweb.com/aa/law-and-enfor...ions-to-foreign-charities . See not how any other country would have a different view on the matter.

Re: Suggestion for a yearly donations of electricity?

It, literally, got a 15min to came up with something like this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/9exg5pj57or1he5/Cer...of%20Computation.pdf?dl=0
Red numbers have to be adjusted with REAL DATA...

So if WCG wants it - use it as a template...so it can be made for every user!

Of course, same thing will be written in Croatian language for tax return...

EDIT:
& a another 10min to make something like this:

Re: Suggestion for a yearly donations of electricity?

The only problem I see in this is that the costs are not listed for the power and the tax authorities probably make hardly bother these will calculate itself.

There are far more important problems, such as it is illegal in many countries to make a false claim for a charitable donation, such as what the OP suggests. The OP is misleading us on this pipe dream. This thread should be closed and/or deleted as someone may accept this as legal advice and illegally act on it. devilish

All it takes is for IBM to declare itself a tax-exempt or non-profit organization. wink

Re: Suggestion for a yearly donations of electricity?

that's probably not @ deltavee,
but if WCG would an independent organization they would have the same status was based have eigenrlich as the "Red Cross" (or?) as a charity.

Re: Suggestion for a yearly donations of electricity?

The only problem I see in this is that the costs are not listed for the power and the tax authorities probably make hardly bother these will calculate itself.

the 3rd paper is statement in which I state:
- I've done crunching on WCG with my computers & therefore I've done the results shown in 2nd file
- that power consumption is about 50Wh per core per day...if I do a 24d in one day, so that means I've done jobs on 24cores...
- I calculate the total amount of h per core from 2nd file...& show them how much W is it per year...written in % of total of my bills for electricity...

sign & that is about it.
in other words, u have to calculate the spent money on donation of computer power...& give them the amount u claim...if he's not satisfied with calculation, let him/her do it by himself - it's his job after all!
cool

Re: Suggestion for a yearly donations of electricity?

WCG, Recently u'e put a post on FB titled: October is Energy Awareness Month!

as some of the aware people here which spends it's own money on electricity & hardware i wanted to get you aware of this: these new processors are not what they used to be...they don't do a 100% of speed anymore & be dormant...no, they power down to 30% of speed & spend less & less power for only writing in Word or browsing internet...so keeping it up to 100% is a big power drain, 'cause modern processors often spend as much as an old wolfram light bulbs (60-150Wh)!!! not to mention about a HDD/SSD access, RAM & MBO...
those kWh we pay on average 0,2€/h...so we're interested in our donations & where the money/CPU power/results go to!

& I'm also bringing this topic back online...so that in this month of Energy Awareness WCG thinks again about a proof of donations @ d end of the year!

thanks,
cool

Re: Suggestion for a yearly donations of electricity?

Maybe the tax authorities would be convinced if you had a second electricity meter in the household, one that is only used for WCG. That way you'll be able to circumvent the whole question of how many kWh the points really translate to. A second meter means additional cost, but it could pay off if you have high crunching related power bills.

If you decide to do this, you should first clear it with your local taxman.

Re: Suggestion for a yearly donations of electricity?

On this 1st year, I'll try with averages 4 the computer bill which is about 120W...or 40W per core!
With calculation how it's being calculated in my bills...so that is a form of a statement, if they agree on it?!

Also, I have to find some1 in Croatia who is benefiting on project listed in research...so I'm donating 4 a internal cause! wink
