As this is an international project with people participating from all over the world, I would think that the only unambiguous date format is YYYY-MM-DD. I agree with this. As a general rule, South Africa follows UK spelling and date formats. Having worked for a company owned and run by a family from the US and after much confusion we agreed to settle on the ISO standard as above.

Indeed ISO 8601 is logical, easy to read and to understand.
----------------------------------------Additionally it makes the computer life easier by sorting information. I am not sure but I think that I already advocated for this representation many years ago since I use to use it since about 25 years. Cheers, Yves |

Sorry to dredge up this old thread, but I've just been looking at my results page and had both US and UK dates on one page. Is it just me who sees the irony in International Business Machines being somewhat less than International in their website design.

It can be confusing - it's not until you get past December that you can be sure which standard someone is using. From my perspective (being English) the whole mm/dd/yy thing seems a little odd - would you have a digital watch that showed mm:ss:hh?
I guess as long as you understand the standard it doesn't matter. Didn't do me any favours when I spoke to a New York friend about the 11/9 attacks though. Fortunately she knew I meant no offense and it was an English thing. |
