Is there any way of setting preferences to just catch Beta tasks?
I've tried the straightforward method but it seems you have to select at least one project. If not, could admins consider moving the Beta selection into the main Projects list please? Thanks S. |

bluepowdermonkey,
We require every participant of WCG to contribute towards atleast 1 active project. We do not run BETA tests very frequently and when we do, there is only a few work units at a time that is deemed necessary to complete the tests. At this time, there is no plan on moving the BETA option to the project selection page. Thanks, -Uplinger |

For android you can use a workaround.
----------------------------------------Select ugm or mcm or cep2 as these projects don't support android. |

Eric, the problem with that way is, fishing only for beta leads to incremental back-offs to the point that the limited test pool may already be gone before the next request for WCG work is done. More so, if also having projects attached outside of WCG, the buffer will then be back-filled again from those other projects, which again postpones work requesting at WCG. Computing for an active WCG project with short tasks increases the chance to get beta when they're in the feeder since they are prioritized above all in the feeder.
(Still not been able to get NativeBOINC running on Lollipop... no cc_configging for the Androids :) /OT |

Maybe the backend enforces otherwise, but because projects retire and fall off the list but don't toggle the beta checkbox, the UI sure makes it look like you're signed up for nothing but beta.
Example -- sign up for only beta + FightAids@H (which is completed anyhow) .... and when they remove FA@H from the list, it will still show you as enrolled for Beta. This only matters of course if there are more projects in the pipeline to be onboarded --- and things have trended otherwise from an overall open project count. Cheers! |

The Beta sign-up is entirely separate, where you select which devices under what device profiles will be receiving betas, if available. The device profiles themselves do not allow saving unless an active/intermittent project is selected, so yes, if all the ones you selected complete, you have 'accidentally' created a situation where one is only signed up for Beta.
----------------------------------------Don't think the beta enrollment page checks the ticked device profiles have an active/intermittent project selected at time of OKaying. Something for the techs to code-jockey if they wanted, but 'Thé list' of things to do / wanted done is already infinitely long to have time to address this small gap. Have set my cache to almost zero so boinc would send/receive another wu as soon as one is done and sent in. But if the project has a hiccup, your computer may run dry for awhile.

If you really, really want to just do the Beta work units, you could select an active project which doesn't have much work available such as Clean Energy. However, the dearth of both Beta and Clean Energy work units would mean that you'll have a lot of idle time!
