Which comparison algorithm is this project using? BLAST?

Not very likely since faster algorithms are available.

This question is slightly off Hope it's okay that I post it in here. A couple of days ago Saturday US time I think it was I processed a few work units and the upload size was about 1.5 meg is any compression used at all? If so I would be interested to know what the original results size is

They are using SSEARCH which is part of FASTA.

Knew I'd seen it and am surprised. This Jan.15 by wdegrave mentions ssearch used for the Genome Comparison project in 2006 http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=473797 but not expected same was being used for UGM... as for SIMAP... "in later years redoing the calculations similar to Genome Comparison". smile
