Why does Android require Name, Email and Password to Login instead of just Username and Password?

I am wondering why the Android BOINC World Community Grip (and HTC Power to Give) apps require Name, email and password?

When ever I install on a new mobile device it is a royal pain to get the initial login to work!

I suspect that other users may just give up on participating because it can be so difficult to login.

I don't remember if I used Rob or Robert as my first name or if it really wants my username in the first space rather than my full name (robbagley vs Rob Bagley).

I would highly recommend the developers just require username and password on Android like on Windows and Linux.

I don't know why they would require Name, email and password - but I feel confident that if other people are also having difficulty login in the net result of this requirement is people who want to participate are getting frustrated and just giving up.

Suggestions?

Re: Why does Android require Name, Email and Password to Login instead of just Username and Password?

Some weeks ago testing the newest build client, so happened to have detached from WCG on Android and attach again and indeed, the experience was not optimal. In principle WCG does not require email to add this project, just membername and password. As it is the client having a base design for all projects minus WCG requiring instead email and password, guess that's what it became [shaken AND stirred] cool . Yes, volunteer computing for cures does not come easy. A number of releases ago the developer 'forgot' about WCG and insisted that a member name check required to have the [forbidden] email @ included in the name and all attaches on the PCs failed for WCG. The number of support questions was bountiful drooling
