Wouldn't have to cheat if the number per core was set to a more reasonable level considering that cores are so fast today. 35 per core on my 24 core machine (no hyperthreading) is not even one day of work for projects like FAHV and short running OET. my 16 cores are barely over a day maybe bumping 2 days at times. I would like to see it set to 100, as there has to be some limit due to machines with errors, then let the work cache do it's work. Would be willing to compromise at 50.

Kind of reminiscent of the tax system. level playing field and all is fair then along comes some special interest group that does not think it should apply to them and the rot sets in.

7 days not 10
# of tasks not # of days
Loss of functionality in preferences must surely put folks off/detract from WCG

u r running a server machine...

WCG was invented for a simple user...& simple user has only 2 cores now! wink

Re: FA@H Progress Tracking: 99%, 29 APR 2015; finish estimate: mid JUN 2015

Today is seippel's last 'revisited' calculated end day. Getting nothing but long series of 888nnn tasks. With what's buffered, going to fall short at this time. 48 hours more supply and it's possible, no power outages in this heatwave. :42

Edit: Still getting bursts of backfills of 40-98 units at the time. The last the max... no stutter yet:

159 World Community Grid 6/11/2015 12:18:28 PM Scheduler request completed: got 98 new tasks

For those who do not like to be 'trollesque' pointed at as cheats [including those using free cloud servers ;o], revert to any client of the 6 series ** and you'll have unrestricted work buffering [well, unrestricted to the point where the client computes work wont finish in time], at least no +1000 restriction. If you're still using 5.10.45 on domain controllers, that's an even better choice to use on 'your' PC. (Went overboard on the Linux with the ncpus, and still only have 7 days worth, so might switch that box to Windows, to get the full 10. laughing

Bite me, I'm doing it, because I can tongue

Enjoy the day

P.S. Those running BOINC on Windows DCs, soon there's a 7 version that will install on these devices, the note implying, you could not be running the client as a service.

Regardless of whether people are "cheating" or not, they are still helping WCG reach the goal of crunching the remaining WUs. I have "All Projects" selected, and still get large bursts of FA@H WU downloads.

Not really true 100% of the time. I had a WU that I had already started processing, it was a resend as the 10-days had passed. I was about 50% through the WU and it then turned to a server abort as the original WU was sent in. That created wasted CPU time on my side; time that could have been spent on another WU. That WU took 1.26 hours. So the original WU, the OP has the max set to their work buffer and they are not able to return them in the time allowed. How is that "helping" the project?

well, u keep getting more WUs for yourselves...only for your personal gain - badge! & u r not sure if u'll get the science back in time - 'cause of the overload!
maybe that is NOT a cheat...but it's giving:
- WCG more job to do, 'cause science will be resend after ur not finishing in time!
- crunchers more jobs, to do after ur messing up with scripts...
- (most importantly) prolong the finish of the science part!
certainly DOESN'T look MORAL from this side!

& about CLOUD COMPUTING - it's a FREE trial...u can also use it for a month! why didn't u?

main difference between CLOUD COMPUTING & your hack with scripts - CLOUD COMPUTING works normaly & returns DATA on time...(exept when it's shut down on due date!)
cool

p.s. btw, u can run Linux with BOINC...so no problems with Win DC! wink
