Need help setting up work for vacation.

In a few days, I'll be going on a 2 week vacation, and I'd like to have Boinc set for that. I'm particulary worried about deadlines. I have 2 cenarios.

1 - My computers at home. I'll be turning them off during the time I'm out. I'm worried about stopping projects for such long time and missing deadlines, but on the other hand, I don't want to set "no new tasks" and have my computer waste crunching time. Is there anything I can do?

2 - The mobile phones and laptops. I'll be taking a few of these mobile devices with me, and I can use them for crunching; however, I'll have no internet access during that time, and even if I was to download a huge chunck of WUs as buffer, I'm afraid (again) that they'll miss the deadlines. Anything I could do?

as two weeks is more than any of the deadlines of the active projects, there's nothing you can do, aside reporting all finished wus before shutting down your devices

Yay....

Do you know any Boinc projects that have such huge deadlines? It would be better than doing nothing.

Re: Need help setting up work for vacation.

You have another option. Teamviewer ( see www.teamviewer.com ) is a free (for non-commercial use) program that you can run on your PCs and mobile devices. That would allow you to access your PCs while on vacation. Yes, you would need internet access to contact your PCs but if your cell phone has connectivity, you normally also have internet access. Normally, you could just leave your PCs running and BOINC will continue to do its thing while you're gone. However, severe weather can pose a threat to your machines. By checking on the weather forcast periodically while you're gone, if you see bad weather in the forcast, you can shut your PCs down remotely. There are also other programs like Teamviewer.

Re: Need help setting up work for vacation.

For case 1, tell BOINC to not send you any more WUs (BOINC Manager->Projects tab->No new tasks) and in a couple of days you can finish crunching them (if your queue is two days or less).
For case 2, do the same as above and enjoy your vacation. You and you mobile devices can rest from WCG for a few weeks.... we'll cover for you biggrin.
