The American Chemical Society (ACS) recently published in Chemical and Engineering News (C&EN) an interesting article about Ebola and Ebola Research. The article is not paywalled and is available online.
"Unraveling Ebola Scientists are deciphering the virus’s inner workings in an effort to develop effective drugs" See https://cen.acs.org/articles/92/i48/Unraveling-Ebola.html And don't miss the "StoryMap" (kind of an interactive slideshow) at the bottom of the cited web page. |

US-built Ebola treatment centers reportedly sit empty in Liberia
Several treatment centers built by U.S. troops and meant to receive Ebola patients are sitting empty or near empty in the West African county of Liberia, according to a published report. U.N.'s Ebola chief, Dr. David Nabarro, cautioned Thursday that despite the gains "there are still numbers of new cases that are alarming, and there are hot spots that are emerging in new places that make me believe there is still quite a lot of the disease that we are not seeing." http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/01/19/us...dly-sit-empty-in-liberia/ |

Ebola drug trial is halted for lack of patients
A clinical trial in Liberia of a drug to treat Ebola has been halted because of a sharp decline in the number of people infected with the virus, and studies in West Africa of other potential treatments are also facing problems finding patients. The halted trial was testing the antiviral drug brincidofovir at a clinic in Monrovia, Liberia. The developer of the drug, Chimerix, announced late Friday that it would no longer participate in the study. Researchers said that, of course, the ebbing of the outbreak was a good problem to have. http://www.cnbc.com/id/102388868 |
