Happy New Year to everyone and a very special Thank You towards Uplinger for keeping us informed. I let my current queue on oet wus run dry and switch to other projects until a steady flow on oet wus is coming up. I wish I had more ressources to support all other projects. Well, when they open the floodgates, you and I will be ready! 2 CEP2 at a time, someday I'll get to 5 years (3 years and a bit currently) ![]() |

One of my PCs just picked up a couple of OET WU at 2015-01-04 00:42 UTC. Looks like they are pre temporary shutdown in that they are Minimum Quorum 1, Replication 2. So I suspect I'm verifying the results from a Quorum of 1. Work Unit is prefixed OET1_0000296 and was originally sent out on Dec 31, 2014 at 01:13

Honestly, who cares about badges? Folks need to get some perspective. This is for SCIENCE not for silly trinkets on a website.

The highest task-batch seen here was one of 0000297. Today we'll probably see about 1750 validations, plus minus 250. Since the hiatus announcement on Dec.31 proximately 28K results were added to the tally standing at 552.3K at noon for 150.4 runtime years. See http://bit.ly/WCGOET1 for a brief history of time.

I don't know what I have been doing wrong, but I have only ever been sent 27 units so far, although both machines have OET set. That means less than 3 days clocked up. Both run 24/7.
I have just finished my Diamond (5) on CEP2 so have deselected that but still have MCM1 & UGM1 selected as well as OET1. Having built up a cache of MCM & UGM, I thought I would deselect them while working through them in the hope that OET might download. I can always reinstate them if I run short of work and then deselect again. Mike |

Hi Mike,
----------------------------------------You've been doing nothing wrong - I found that OET1 WU's are (were) very hard to get, and that you had to babysit your machine(s) at the precise time that the next batch were due to be released. Hopefully the WCG techs will seriously consider the idea first put forward by SekeRob and expanded upon by myself to restrict OET1 WU's to 2/core - in a similar way as to how Beta WU's are restricted to 1/core whilst the demand outstrips supply. That way, the spread will be wider (as opposed to 1 person already reaching the 5 yr. level already whilst others haven't even got a badge on the board). ![]() |

Honestly, who cares about badges? Folks need to get some perspective. This is for SCIENCE not for silly trinkets on a website. We are here for the science but the badges help show accomplishment. Helps set goals. If you don't care about the badges, that's your choice. No need to be a #$%& to others that do care.

The fallacy with this argument is that the grid is designed to be fair. It is not. It exists to get work done. Beta has an incentive to spread the work to as many diverse systems as possible to best test real world application problems. OET has an incentive to get the work accomplished as quickly as possible. If the fastest systems and power users are snapping up the work, it is almost certain that it is being returned quicker. Edit: I should add that there is certainly room for a debate about how the grid treats its volunteers, but that does not remove from my original statement. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by KWSN-A Shrubbery at Jan 4, 2015 6:11:46 PM] |

OET has an incentive to get the work accomplished as quickly as possible. If the fastest systems and power users are snapping up the work, it is almost certain that it is being returned quicker. When I had managed to get some OET WU's in my queue, they were stuck in PV jail for 5-6 days waiting for my wingman to get them returned. So, this idea that "some power crunchers" who were sucking up most of the available WU's into their queue were returning them quicker than the odd person who were fortunate to get some scraps, is a fallacy. If everyone knows that it's 2 WU's/core, then there's the incentive to have a smaller cache - so that there can be a quicker turnaround.![]() |
