One problem may be that for two of my workunits four were 'error' because of maximum runtime but the others users did manage to complete and validate.

Will I still get credit for my WU?
----------------------------------------It has been waiting on P Val for 7 days, with wingmen either erroring or no reply. Mine has now turned Too Late even though it was returned with 35hrs processing, in time. Oh yeah, the 'Too Late' gambit. Just stare at this list and start praying on your bare knees the technicians fix this before the flex work units are put into production, though 'credit' is something they'd not like touching even with a long barge pole. 22 hours valid for 17.1 credit, .38 hours for 4.8 credit, 28 hours for 468 credit and 17 hours for 504.7 credit. Reads like blindfold darts and Phil Taylor scoring ONEHUNDREDANDEIIIIIGHTY .
BETA_ OET1_ 0000307_ xEBGP-OM_ rig_ 0970_ 5-- 3113135 Valid 12/9/14 03:04:09 12/10/14 02:06:49 22.90 / 23.03 17.1 / 17.1 BETA_ OET1_ 0000035_ xMBGP_ 2609_ 2-- 2372334 Invalid 12/7/14 19:35:32 12/7/14 21:36:17 0.37 / 0.38 8.3 / 4.8 BETA_ OET1_ 0000307_ xEBGP-OM_ rig_ 0711_ 3-- 2497409 Valid 12/6/14 07:43:44 12/7/14 12:14:08 28.07 / 28.49 550.3 / 468.3 BETA_ OET1_ 0000307_ xEBGP-OM_ rig_ 0921_ 5-- 3113135 Too Late 12/5/14 04:26:31 12/5/14 21:40:44 17.10 / 17.20 504.7 / 504.7 The problem is amplified because the production environment is probably going to have the short 'Rigid' versions of tasks and these long 'Flexible' mixed together which 'Credit New' is incapable of handling, then this also going to be a single quorum and quorum 2 combination at that to warp things further. Phil uses bend darts in these cases, always missing the mark. (But then we get the cracked 78rpm record "However, our first priority is the research projects and their related work units, as well as launching new projects." Sorry techs, but this ignored state remains untreated now for years and years! ) |

This is why I aborted every task that ended in _3 or higher. Not worth wasting the computing time IMHO. How many of the same errors are needed?

I suggest to look a little bit deeper at the resends.
----------------------------------------Perhaps there is a pending validation in the resend history and your work can validate it. This happens very often on the resends I did receive. And it's a different result if a workunit errors out on every participants or only on some participants. If you abort them, developers didn't get the chance to compare the results why they error out sometimes and sometimes not. Personally I find it very annoying to hear all that complaining about waste of time and blablabla. Some people should think about the meaning of beta testing and what it is for. And think about why they have joined beta testing. Only for badge and credit? Than it's definitely the wrong decission... |

If the same task has errored out 3 times already with the same error how is my retuning the same error again going to help? Personally I find it very annoying to hear all that complaining about waste of time and blablabla. Why should how I chose to run my machines be any concern of yours? Some people should think about the meaning of beta testing and what it is for. And think about why they have joined beta testing. Only for badge and credit? Than it's definitely the wrong decission... Let's see. You've been here a little over a year and I've been here more than 6 years. When you've been here that long then come talk to me about decisions.

The reason for letting the task run is that there's still a chance it might complete within the (suicide) limit. uplinger has asked us to let them complete. I had 3 such resends on my most powerful machine, but due to an unexpected system crash and the lack of checkpointing they restarted from 0 and I had to kill them, otherwise they wouldn't complete anyway within the short (1.5 day) deadline. So in this scenario it was a waste of time - task too large (>24 h), no checkpoints, short deadline.

If the same task has errored out 3 times already with the same error how is my retuning the same error again going to help? How will you know that your device will error out this until you haven't tried it? I had a lot of resends with one participant returned pending validation and others with errors. My return of the wu validated the wu... Why should how I chose to run my machines be any concern of yours? Of course this is not my concern. My concern is that beta test wasn't done properly and you don't give the developers the chance to analyse the differences exactly. Than it's might be a waste of time for everyone... Let's see. You've been here a little over a year and I've been here more than 6 years. When you've been here that long then come talk to me about decisions. Did I get you rght: The more time someone spends in wcg the more qualified he is? I don't need to spend 6 years to understand the nature of beta testing. There is a lot of interesting books on software development and testing out there. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Eric_Kaiser at Dec 11, 2014 3:38:20 PM] |

Did I get you rght: The more time someone spends in wcg the more qualified he is? You obviously missed the point. Have a nice day. I'm done.

I suggest to look a little bit deeper at the resends. Perhaps there is a pending validation in the resend history and your work can validate it. Mine wasn't a resend. Due to all the other wingmen not replying with a valid WU, mine went to Too Late. Update: It has now gone to Valid. :-) Patrick [Edit 1 times, last edit by pcwr at Dec 11, 2014 4:58:49 PM] |
