Re: Im new, How does this work ?

Yes, you have a problem.

I have dropped a note to the Staff about this. I have a vague memory of a similar problem months back but this is the first screen shot I have seen of it. I expect you will get some information and questions from Viktors or another staff member later today.

confused Re: Im new, How does this work ?

Sorry, I was waiting hoping somebody on the staff would pick it up. This does not look like the problem with McAfee VirusScan 8.0 at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=347 or the DEP setting problem for the Athlon 64 at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1297 but just the same, I would like a list of the security programs active on your computer - firewall, antivirus and antispyware.

Then read the System Requirements at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq and make sure that your computer satisfies them.

Then try to download a new work unit. The way to do this is to bring up Task Manager (right click on the bottom bar and select it) and then kill the WCGrid_Rosetta.exe process down toward the bottom of the list of processes. This will cause the grid agent UD.exe to download a new copy of WCGrid_Rosetta (our current Human Proteome Folding project application) and a new work unit.

If that does not work, then do a complete uninstall - reinstall of the World Community Grid. You will have to give the computer (device) a new name but just use your current signon and check the box saying that you are a previous member.

And then post here so that we can find out what is happening.

ok.

For my anti-virus and such.. I have : M$ Antispyware , ETrust EZ Antivirus.

Now I did what you said..[ Close "WCGrid_Rosetta.exe" ] but it didn't do anything. So I then Reinstalled...It started to work but then it keeps Stopping at around .5% and starts over again. Do I turn off my Firewall?

confused Re: Im new, How does this work ?

The next step is to suspect a problem with your computer that makes it crash. If this is the case, then your Grid Agent will be returning some information with each new work unit. So the thing to do is to send a 'Contact Us' report describing your problem and your system. This will give your device id to the staff so that they can query the server and find out just what is being sent. 'Contact Us' is a tiny link at the very bottom of most web pages, such as 'Home', but it is not in the Forum section of the website.

Also, go to the 'Useful Utilities' thread at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2490 and download everything that looks helpful. In particular, download:
2) CPU Tester: http://7byte.com/index.php?page=download
General diagnostic program

3) Memory Tester: http://www.memtest86.com/
Memory diagnostic program

Start testing your memory, then your CPU. Hardware problems are usually either in RAM or in the little-used Floating Point Unit (FPU) in your CPU. Belarc Advisor makes sure that all the OS security patches have been applied, so it is useful as well.

This sounds like an interesting problem, but if you can get to 0.5%, it is almost certainly a computer problem that you need to diagnose.

Sorry I am so slow today, but I am playing a game and just occasionally interrupting it to look at the Forum. smile

Re: Im new, How does this work ?

If your agent is stuck at 0% for longer than a few hours, there might be something else using all of the CPU time. Try looking at the Task Manager (ctrl-alt-del) and click on the Processes tab. Then click on the CPU column heading to sort the processes by CPU % usage so that the high users are at the top. You should see WCGrid_Rosetta at the top of the list with nearly 100% CPU usage. If not, there might be another processes using all of the CPU. Since the agent for World Community Grid runs at lowest CPU priority, it yields to anything else using CPU time. Recently, I have seen antivirus programs, sprint spoolers, and even an audio mixer run wild in an infinite loop, consuming all of the CPU and not letting Rosetta run. If you find something else is using all of the CPU, you might try stopping it (depending on what it is and if you think it is important). Otherwise, a reboot may help too.

[ School , Football ect.. ]. However, when I tried the Memory Tester..It gives me a DoS Command Prompt and asks me to get an image source or something like that..Thanks for your guys help. I really want to help the project thing.

When I do this..The only thing taking up 100% of my CPU is the program and nothing else is running.

[By the way, sorry for double post, I have no clue on how to quote two times in the same post on these forums]

Re: Im new, How does this work ?

Hello LiL eNgInE b0i,

Memtest86 has an Install that creates a bootable floppy disk. Otherwise you can burn a bootable CD. This is all described in the online documentation.
For windows installation begin by downloading either the Pre-Compiled Windows package to build a boot-able floppy disk or an ISO (zip version) to create a boot-able CDROM. After the file is downloaded an extract must be done to uncompress the file(s). To extract right click on the downloaded file and select the "Extract All" option. The extract option will let you choose where the files will be extracted to. To build a bootable floppy go the the folder where the files were extracted and click on the Install icon. The floppy disk will appear to be unformatted by Windows after the install is complete.

To build a boot-able CDROM use your CD burning software to create an image from the un-zipped ISO file.

Since Memtest86 is a standalone program it does not require any operating system support for execution. It can be used with any PC regardless of what operating system, if any, is installed. The test image may be loaded from a floppy disk or may be loaded via LILO on Linux systems. Any Unix, Windows or DOS system may be used to create a boot floppy or bootable CDROM.

Let us know what is happening.
