Hi
I am not technically savvy, and relatively new to the grid. I have been running Boinc on a windows machine for a few months, and am now wondering if I can run it on my iPad and iPhone? I have tried downloading but I don't know if or where the downloads are going, I just know I can't see them. HELP!!! Is it possible to use smartphone and iPad processors? If so would someone be kind enough to point me at a simple guide that would help me please. |

Spedders, iOS products are not currently supported. The developers of BOINC have stated that it is because of Apples rules. So, until Apple changes their policy there will be no official port to iOS devices. Currently only Android.

Dear Coleslaw,
----------------------------------------Any idea what specifically in Apple's rules have prevented this? I have been hanging around here for a long time and wish we as a community could advocate for a change to Apple's rules to make this a reality. Sorry to bump such an old thread on this issue (and I know this has been discussed ad nauseum...) ![]() ![]() |

BOINC would be rejected because it has to download the project apps from their respective servers, and that's not allowed in the Apple App Store. I wonder, if BOINC made one anyway, we could download it via an ipa file online. Safari lets you install those automatically. |

I wonder, if BOINC made one anyway, we could download it via an ipa file online. Safari lets you install those automatically. This IS NOT a problem! Why? 1. BOINC can be made with all apps within it...so it can have engine 4 apps Einstein@home, poem@home, SETi@home, WCG projects within a BOINC...& every time a new app is developed, a newer BOINC version is listed on Apple store! 2. if that is 2 much DATA for install...BOINC can be made specifically for each project with included apps...example: BOINC with WCG apps BOINC with SETi@home apps BOINC with Poem@home apps BOINC with Einstein@home apps ... Every time a new app is developed for iOS devices, a newer BOINC version with that app is available! Now, can it be done or not?! ![]() |

AFAIHBI, every WU is an app. So, if my information are correct, there is no way to run it on iOS except you download every new WU as a new app from Store

But like klik said, the apps could be already in the boinc app, then for each work unit it only has to download some small files which say what's going to be running in that task. I'm sure it could be done if the techs thought about it more. I remember one of the boinc devs saying they could ask Apple for an exception.

I remember one of the boinc devs saying they could ask Apple for an exception. in 1 business I used 2 work in, d idea was always 2 be solution oriented...so I found out that when u r solution oriented, u have no problems - just some small obstacles in ur way 2 success! yes, BOINC 4 WCG can be made with FAHV & OET exec...so that it only downloads WUs 4 crunching...I think that wouldn't collide with Apple rules! please, correct me if I'm wrong? ![]() |
