I got bored! So set a new challenge!

As it ways in the subject...

I've not done much to the 'Death Star' build since getting it up and running see here

So I'm going to get four of my HD7970's installed in the SR2 based system! I see there being a couple of challenges
    GPU heat management
    Power management
the first can be managed, I hope with some additional fans, but time will tell. The second will be handled by either 2 x Corsair AX1200's or 2 x AX850's

ANother minor issue will be getting the GPU's to work under Ubuntu! I would prefer to run under the current OS, although have Win7Ult. I could use.

Any advice on the Ubunut GPU/driver issues would be most appreciated

Currently running Ubuntu 14.xx LTS

Re: I got bored! So set a new challenge!

dual PSU is OK...I used to do it on my late server with "hot wiring"...but on a long runs, NO!
unless you have a factory links that work as a hot wire!

I would sugget to go out with one PSU!

why do u have 1200W?

(sorry, new at Linux...can't help with that suggestion!)

Yep, I have a factory link for the 2 PSU's, so no issue there... and the Corsair 900 beast of a case will take 2 PSU's

1200's allow big systems all the power they need without stressing the PSU. not the most efficient I know, but preserves the longevity of the PSU and ensures the system components get all the power they need!

Re: I got bored! So set a new challenge!

Having done some test runs with 4 x HD7970's and as suspected, they can't breath! They sit so close together they just can't get any air! Well the first three, the last one's fine!

After the tests yesterday, I ordered 4 x Corsair H55's, I'm goig to fit them to the HD7970's and resolve the GPU/chip cooling issues. Then increase the airflow through the case to cool the VRAM and all should be good!

Only problem now is, how do I fit the H55's to the GPU's

I'll just have to play when they arrive...
