Forcing Boinc into a computational error might do the trick, because beta errors do get credit. Is there a 'computational-error-expert' in the house? This is a little radical, but here goes. If you have a UPS, disable it. Then simply pull the plug on your system. You have created an instant power outage. However, I do not recommend this as you risk corrupting your OS, other files and maybe even some of your hardware. A simple abort will work just fine. Cheers

Sgt.Joe, thanks for your advice. Your solution is quite a radical one, which I like, but I decided not to try because of possible damage to the computer. Aborting the units did the trick just fine. However, later I was working on the electrics in my house, and inadvertently cut the power to the room with the computer in it. All is well, no damage that I have noticed, but I have unintentionally tested your idea and the outcome is: it didn't work. All tasks simply resumed after reboot, starting from the last checkpoints. So it seems Boinc can't be bruised, crashed or burned into a computational error. Some stronger stuff (i.e. beta) is needed for that.

The 3 Wu's that were over 100 Hr's & that I Aborted did receive Credit & Hr's Credited too. The Credit was very little but the Hr's were more important to me anyway so all is good ...

So my work unit I posted about earlier, I would have appreciated if there was follow through. Just stopped by my office and it has been running for 179.57 processor hours (~183 actual hours).
