Today I noticed two messages, one of which is for World Community Grid:
----------------------------------------World Community Grid: Notice from server The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 needs 239.93MB more disk space. You currently have 2320.07 MB available and it needs 2560.00 MB. as shown in this screenshot. I went straight to have a look at my disk, and it has 100,000 MB available, as shown on 'Disks' utility screenshot or 88,900 MB available, as shown on Nautilus 'Properties' screenshot. What is the BOINC Notice talking about? I'll need to know that so that I am able to give it some more space. [Edit 1 times, last edit by el_gallo_azul at Sep 14, 2014 2:11:49 AM] |

Check your Device Settings, YOU set how much disk space is available to a project, it does NOT depend on how much you have

As Scribe says, you choose to allow how much disk space BOINC can use. It doesn't just hijack all your system resources. Look at your disk usage preferences. There are options for:
----------------------------------------Use at most X Gigabytes disk space I would imagine you are being caught by the "Use at most X% of total..." Edit: Fixed typo [Edit 1 times, last edit by Steve W at Sep 15, 2014 9:20:47 AM] |

The first screenshot says & vlhc having a problem too on your 'linux ubuntu?' system. Is lhc not requiring a vm environment? http://lhcathome.web.cern.ch/test4theory and that then having also preferences, on for instance the allowed diskspace?
----------------------------------------That aside, steve w showed the settings you need to amend on the agent side, if they are the limiting factor. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 15, 2014 9:39:37 AM] |

The replies from @Scribe and @Steve+W made sense, so I went straight to look at my BOINC Computing preferences...
I have added a screenshot. It still doesn't make any sense, because according to my Computing preferences..., I should have at least 44,000MB available. |

The 'use at most 0.00 gb diskspace' has to be set to for instance 10gb, which is iirc the default. That's the top ceiling. If there's only 9gb unused before boinc usage, and 0.1gb is to be left free, it really becomes 8.9gb. Then, if the disk would only have been 8gb, then 90 percent of that is the maximum, so 7.2gb. Since your disk has 100gb, the effective 'use at most' will though be whatever you enter in the first of 3 options, the proposed 10gb. You'll hardly ever need more.

It looks like setting zero for disk usage means 'unlimited' for that setting and also shown in BOINC Manager 7.4.18 '0 means no restriction'. |

Most very peculiar. Booted into windows which has 7.4.8 where the (0 means no restriction) note is present, changed the 10.00gb to 0.00 and see in the event log after saving the preference, that 19.65gb is allowed, which is about right as this runs on an exclusive boinc partition. Is there a user/vm space restriction set under linux?
The actual event log would be of interest, stdoutdae.txt as that prints out all the main settings and the location where installed. Opening boinc manager, a 'disk' tab screenshot would also tell us more. |
