Devices not checking in...

I have 6 windows 7 boxes that are running BOINC. While they download, complete work and upload results, these machines are not coming up on my device list I check in on worldcommunitygrid.org

Has anyone else ever experienced this problem? If so, can you please share the solution?

Thank you,

Nick

In boinc manager on each machine, check under the Projects tab and see what account they are crunching under.....sometimes your user name and the account name have been created differently wink

Re: Devices not checking in...

Hi Alan,

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I've checked the accounts. All machines that are NOT checking in are logged in under the same account as those which are.

Other suggestions?

I was thinking about reinstalling BOINC, but that would be a big job and one I would like to avoid if possible.

Nick

Nick,
Just as a test, in Device Manager, have you tried setting both Installed/Registered Device: and With Result(s) Returned: to "anytime (all devices)"?

Re: Devices not checking in...

One of the 6 machines showed up for a while. I've just checked again and its gone. Settings are as follows:

Installed/Registered Device: 30 days
and With Result(s) Returned: 90 days

Again, short of reinstalling, any suggestions?

Re: Devices not checking in...

Nick,

You've said that the unlisted machines are completing and uploading work (and presumably reporting), but please confirm that such work is for WCG and not for other projects. If no WCG work has reported in 90 days (with your settings), then the devices won't show up on the WCG Device Manager. Sorry to be nit-picking, but I am trying to help!

Please also confirm that you have actually tried my suggestion of changing both those settings to "anytime (all devices)" and hit Refresh. Do any of the missing devices then appear?

As one of the machines showed up for a while, I doubt that reinstalling BOINC will solve anything on that machine.

If none of the above solves the problem, then follow the usual recommendation here of rebooting and posting the start of the Event Log (BOINC v7 terminology) for an unlisted machine, at least the first 30 lines, more if you have multiple projects (so that all the BOINC start-up lines are shown), in your case making sure you then also include lines showing a WCG workunit uploading and reporting. Doing so might shed light on the problem.

Re: Devices not checking in...

One more try Nick. Reboot 2 of your machines - one which shows and one which has not - and post the first 65 lines from your event logs from both.

Cheers and good luck

Hi Tony...

When that one machine showed up, I concluded that the the work WAS for WCG.
