Mmmm. Another thing that I'm not sure is a pure beta issue but it's a beta WU and a new validator, so here goes.

WU BETA_ E225108_ 412_ S.328.C42H27N7.LLZNKJDGUWRARQ-UHFFFAOYSA-N.15_ s1_ 14_ 0 ran for 18 hours on one of my machines and was killed "because cpu time has been exceeded". It was still in the first sub-job. However, it was allocated the status "Error" (rather than "Invalid") and zero points. The wingman made it beyond the first sub-job and a third copy was issued for validation of that.

I quite understand that my machine did nothing useful, but I don't see why this was regarded as an error because there is insufficient information to evaluate the validity of the processing that the machine did before the application terminated. I would have expected it to have been regarded as invalid on the basis of a 'no user fault' problem. Similarly, I think zero points is a bit harsh.

Again, just my 2p'th.


Work units have a hard cap at 18 hours. They don't all go to error when that limit is reached though. I think it has more to do with progress made.

When the unit is in step 0 and reaches the 18 hour mark, it is assumed to be an error with the unit itself.

As for the no credit - these are beta. There is a script that runs that awards credit claimed for beta units that error. This script has not run for days probably because the validator is turned off.

If the techs remember to run it, all those work units will be granted credit. Occasionally things happen and the work disappears before the script can run. Personally, I have 12ish units at that step, so very concerned that everything works properly. It's a long road to the five-year badge.

As for the no credit - these are beta. There is a script that runs that awards credit claimed for beta units that error. This script has not run for days probably because the validator is turned off.

That is true for the CEP2 WU but is not true for the Beta WUs, at least with ones that end in error. This is the first time I got BETA WUs, both ended in error after 90 minutes or so and a day later I was given credit for both of them in the My Contribution page.

The 12 that you finished and are waiting for credit, perhaps your error was the 18 hour mark limit? Or perhaps they didn't error with the max number of people yet? (is the magic number 9?).

I had one that exited in Job#6, while two other "contestants" exited in job#0. Mine turned from PV to error, whereas the other two got valids.
That's odd, if it was a "success"-type exit from Job#6. What does the Result Log show for your unit? The common successful exit seems to give the line "Application exited with RC = 0x1".


That's what mine said: "Application exited with RC = 0x1"

They say there is an uptick of earthquakes in Iceland. That may just be an echo from uplinger banging his head against the wall. biggrin

My conclusion:

When 2 wingmen both return after a short running period during Job #0, they come in PVer. The resend, when running normal long, will be invalid, because it doesn't fit to the first 2.
In my case above, the first 2 were different, so it depends on my outcome. When exited during job #0, the wingman with the short runtime will win. When running normal (6 or 7 Jobs), the long running wingman will win like in my case.

Another thing I noticed.
When the exit during Job #0 is within the first 10-15 minutes, the Job restarts from the beginning.
When the exit is later on during Job #0, let's say after about an hour, the task returns successful.

I know that beta WUs are handled differently. My concern was simply that, once in production, someone running a WU for 18 hours and getting zero points would be very disappointed if the logs appeared to show that their machine did nothing wrong. I'm just trying to head off losing crunchers from this project, that's all. Because it's opt-in anyway, there aren't so many to start with.

As for the no credit - these are beta. There is a script that runs that awards credit claimed for beta units that error.

How about beta's that are too late? Will they also get credit? Or are the treated as regular tasks?
