Re: the 'calico' website

Their 'Mission Statement' states:

Calico is a research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies to increase our understanding of the biology that controls lifespan. We will use that knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives. Executing on this mission will require an unprecedented level of interdisciplinary effort and a long-term focus for which funding is already in place.

This bit interests me: We will use that knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives.

I guess we are already doing that anyway here on WCG!

yes we are doing that. WCG has always been careful not to make crazy claims for this computing work, which is a good thing.

certainly questions are raised on what google/calico's approaches will be.

i will really lol if they just tell us to 'exercise and eat clean'. smile

Re: the 'calico' website

well I don't remember much,
but i remember telemeres or some such word.
There are little things on cells that get shorter when they divide.
These cause/track/havesomethingtodowith aging.
I guess i'll google,
but if you could stop the shrinkage you'd live longer.
HEY I was close, "Telomeres"
Wow maybe i'm not as old as i thought!

Re: the 'calico' website

To bring more elements to the debate ( as i try to discern the real motives of Google.. commercial ? )
here may be the right question in the Journal of Gerontology
How Long Must Humans Live?
these scientists see 50-55 years as a "darwinian evolutionary limit"

While another study comparing top-level athletes and persons aging
around 110 years reveal a "physiological barrier" in the range 80-105 years
Longévité, les limites sont-elles atteintes?
Longevity, are we reaching the limits?

Ps :sorry for the link in french; the results were published first in Journal of Gerontology but i cannot find the link

Re: the 'calico' website

I visited their website and hoping that they will be successful in finding cure of aging. I remember I saw website that tackles all about aging. He even posted theories on aging. I think the name of that site is senescene.info.
