Re: New BETA test - July 29, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

I find that if you suspend the other wu's that have not yet started on your rig then each time a wu completes a beta will take its place. unfortunately you do need to be watching quite closely for the last beta to start in order not to have idle cores. Using Boinctasks makes this somewhat easier.

Or you can suspend all non-Beta WUs thereby letting the Betas start, and then immediately resume all suspended WUs. The Betas will continue running and no WUs will remain suspended. Your suspended WUs will revert back to the last checkpoint, but this is only a big deal if you are running CEP2.

Yes that is a pretty viable idea (thanks everyone for all the suggestions)! :)
But this was the scenario:
1. I visit WCG website forum and see that a Beta has been launched.
2. I look at the Results Status page and find that a cruncher PC has received five Beta WUs
3. I remote to my cruncher and find those beta WUs in the cache so I intuitively click on them and then look for a button to "force start" or "mark as prioritized" or something "start asap" etc you get the idea, but I don't find it.
4. Unfortunately I don't have the time to select/deselct and suspend/resume tasks in the cache so instead I have no option but to close the remote connection, knowing that sometime the next day those WUs will start, but that's not as fun as getting them to run immediately :)

Someone mentioned 3rd party tools, but I just want to be able to have one tool (BOINC client) and I think that such a feature would not be hard to implement (or rather, already should have been there by now).

Oh well, I guess it is not the end of the world. :/

Re: New BETA test - July 29, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

Please note that i have added another 3000+ work units into this beta. It fixes an issue with how outputs are created. They should be very similar in runtime and result sizes as the first 3000 work units that were run earlier.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Someone mentioned 3rd party tools

I would be very interested in learning more about these tools. Any more info or links about this? I could not find the thread(s).

I picked up two more while not paying attention. Both were successful on their own. The system is a custom build Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650L 0 (ES chip) with 32GB Ram and Windows 7 Pro x64. BOINC v. 7.3.19 x64

Re: New BETA test - July 29, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

Without realising it (at the time), I did manage to pick up 4 of these Beta units, and whilst they all appeared to run fine, on one of them (which was reported as Valid), the WU status report seemed to be rather slim...

The other WU's that my machine has reported, all had rather more details in the Results log than this first one. Is this an issue?

Re: New BETA test - July 29, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

Got several of them today, all proceeded fine.

my Win 7-64b rig i7-3770 (BOINC 7.2.42) finished all of them while I was in work, so I was not able to test checkpoints.

4 of them I received on my Mac OS X 10.9.4 i5-2500S (BOINC 7.0.65) did not checkpoint at all.

Cheers good luck

Four of the new batch came and went on my Windows 8 system. I hate Windows 8 but they appear to have processed just fine.

Thanks, but BTW: have you ever heard of activities called "sleeping" and "resting"? wink

branjo, my time is Central Standard Time. But it was still pretty late.

I have heard of "sleeping" and "resting" but always assumed they were myths.

Thanks,

Re: New BETA test - July 29, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

I wonder whether or not there will be another round of work to test in about 13 1/2 to 14 hours this would be a wonderful way to start my weekend. There has certainly been a lot of work going through beta in the last week. As of the latest stats update 88 results were returned. Have a good weekend all
