Re: New BETA test - July 29, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

Returned 4 from my Windows VM / Win7 64bit on an AMD Opteron 6172 host.
Runtimes between 20 and 48 minutes and upload files between 36K and 166K. Upload-filesize seems runtime related.
Restarted all 4 tasks twice and they resumed from the last saved checkpoint.
Checkpointing looks interesting; somehow SIMAP is doing.
Not the application itself is controlling how often a checkpoint is made,
but it takes the checkpoint interval from BOINC preferences.
Tested it with 120 seconds and 30 seconds. Checkpoints were made at ~120-125 seconds resp. at 30-32 seconds.

Re: New BETA test - July 29, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

I had graphics running from one WU (as in Tasks / Show graphics) when the WU completed. Windows 8.1 64-bit reported an error that the .exe had stopped running (not even sure whether it was WU exe or graphics exe). Is that error to be expected? I think it was BETA_ beta_ 000_ 0003046_ 1, which in now in PVal and has nothing unusual in the Report Log. It was the last one in my queue so I can't re-test.

Yikes, a Windows error happens even with non-Beta WUs, especially if I have enlarged the graphics window (as I think I did with the Beta unit), and then click the X to close the window - tested in MCM, FAHV and FAAH. In these repeatable cases, it's the graphics exe. Running BOINC 7.2.47.

My av on windows 8.1 was throwing errors and doing a deep throat analysis each time loading the graphics, but otherswise the graphframe ran fine.

Re: New BETA test - July 29, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

Got two on an i5-4200M running win 8.1
closed the client, suspended/resumed, suspended all, and interrupted with a CPU benchmark and they seem to be fine
000_0001659_1 and 000_0001660_1
An hour and a half estimated time with about 12 minutes actual CPU time, but thats probably just from BOINCS issues guessing time with WCG.
Both of them had the start of the error log start with the following line, but that seems to be normal?
"Unable to open checkpoint file starting from 0 "

Although I wasn't in the right place at the right time (and hence, no Beta WU's at this end), I'm glad to hear that we're progressing along the road with a new project.

This is most certainly the best way to retain/regain crunchers - so, here's hoping that all the Beta testing goes smoothly and the launch of the new project comes soon smile

3 rigs linux 1 windoze caught all wu's and suspended at least once. Wide variability in runtime (at least 2 > 1 hour, others under 15mins)

Probably the most painless 1st Beta I've yet seen

Re: New BETA test - July 29, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

The unable to restore checkpoint file starting from 0 is normal.

As for checkpoints. If you notice the counter going up in the graphics, each time it completes one of those it checks to see if it is time for checkpoint, thus it should be able to checkpoint at a regular frequency based on your preferences.

I will pass on the details about having cpu/os information in the stderr. I believe however it will be easier for just having it in the result page instead. Since that data is already collected by BOINC on a host level.

Thanks,

Re: New BETA test - July 29, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

I missed the announcement earlier, but did catch 1 work unit. I did not get to see it in action. The work unit is pending.

DELL Inspiron N5010
i3 m380 CPU HT on for total 4 threads
Win 7 Premium x64
3GB RAM
BOINC 7.4.8 64bit version

Edit: P.S. - Any sharable info on projected system requirements for the new project other than SSE2?

Re: New BETA test - July 29, 2014 [ Issues Thread ]

I catched 13 WU's, running between 0.21 and 0.72 hours. They all ran on XEON machines. Some of them (2) gave some strange messages in the log between the "query sequences compared." messages:

code begins with 0: =0*1=26*1=101*1=6
code begins with 0: =0*1=13*1*1=53*1=15*1=15*1=5*1=7*1=44
