1- Should cardiac screening guidelines for survivors of childhood cancer be reviewed ?
----------------------------------------"One of the first studies to analyze the effectiveness of screening survivors of childhood cancer for early signs of impending congestive heart failure finds improved health outcomes but suggests that less frequent screening than currently recommended may yield similar clinical benefit. The researchers utilized a simulation-based model to estimate the long-term benefits associated with routine screening." http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/05/...ily%3A+Top+Health+News%29 2- Chemists discover structure of cancer drug candidate "Chemists have determined the correct structure of a highly promising anticancer compound approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for clinical trials in cancer patients. In the new study, scientists show that TIC10's structure differs subtly from a version published by another group last year, and that the previous structure associated with TIC10 in fact describes a molecule that lacks TIC10's anticancer activity." http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/05/...ily%3A+Top+Health+News%29 3- Robot-assisted prostate cancer surgery as safe but more expensive as open surgery in older men "Minimally invasive robot-assisted surgery, which has become the main choice for surgically removing cancerous prostate glands during recent years, is as safe as open surgery for Medicare patients over age 65, a study shows. As of 2009, more than 60 percent of all radical prostatectomies in the U.S. were done robotically." http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/05/...ily%3A+Top+Health+News%29 4- 'Low-risk' prostate cancer often not low-risk when targeted biopsy is used "Selection of men for active surveillance for prostate cancer should be based not on the widely used conventional biopsy, but with a new, image-guided targeted prostate biopsy. Researchers found that conventional "blind" biopsy failed to reveal the true extent of presumed low-risk prostate cancers, and that when targeted biopsy was used, more than a third of these men had more aggressive cancers than they thought. Their aggressive cancers were not detected by conventional blind biopsy using ultrasound alone." http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/05/...ily%3A+Top+Health+News%29 |

Des résultats qui peuvent aider les cliniciens à identifier les patients à faible risque qui devraient pourtant bénéficier d’un traitement anticancéreux agressif." http://www.santelog.com/news/diagnostic/cance...relasuite.htm#lirelasuite PROSTATE CANCER : Free testosterone, a marker of worsening can "Testosterone levels should be taken into account in the prognosis of prostate cancer, even at low risk, said the study of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, presented in the British Journal of Urology International. These results may help clinicians identify patients at low risk should nevertheless benefit from an aggressive cancer treatment." http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/bju.12682/abstract French Article http://www.santelog.com/news/diagnostic/cance...relasuite.htm#lirelasuite |

What's the purpose of this thread?
We already have the Interesting News Articles About Cancer thread which serves the same purpose. I regard this thread as an unnecessary dupe. |

A mega-vaccine against measles to kill tumors "A mass-based virotherapy 100,000 billion units of measles virus have recently due to erythematosus, multiple myeloma, in a 50 years old patient cancer. While research has been working for many years the trail of oncolytic viruses, these viruses can infect only cancer cells and destroy them while sparing healthy cells, this is the first successful attempt of massive intravenous virotherapy . It is a success because the patient remained in remission almost 9 months." http://www.mayoclinicproceedings.org/article/S0025-6196(14)00332-2/fulltext French Article http://www.santelog.com/news/cancerologie/can...relasuite.htm#lirelasuite |

Its prevention is the reduction of chemical exposures "Every woman is exposed to chemicals that may increase your risk of breast cancer. Hitherto no study had explored the link between toxic chemicals and the risk of breast cancer. However, reducing these exposures could save many lives. All these exposures are not necessarily preventable, but the identification of the main chemical and toxic risk factors for breast cancer, these scientists Silent Spring Institute (Massachusetts) can recall the environmental priorities for the prevention of breast cancer, both health authorities and women, to the extent where they can escape. Findings to be published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives are a first step towards the identification of specific biomarkers of this environmental risk." http://ehp.niehs.nih.gov/1307455/ http://www.silentspring.org/news/press_releas...rget-breast-cancer-preven French Article http://www.santelog.com/news/cancerologie/can...relasuite.htm#lirelasuite |
