Re: What motivates you to participate and who have you recruited?

I started many years ago with seti@home. Later I moved to protein folding. I moved to WCG in 2008. I prefer to run medical research projects especially cancer related ones. In 2010 my wife was diagnosed with lung cancer. She went through chemo and radiation treatments and survived until July, 2014. I now have 4 pcs running 24/7 and hope to add 1 more in a couple of weeks. I am not one of the big crunchers, but I am trying to do my part.

Re: What motivates you to participate and who have you recruited?

A long time ago I was looking for an advanced phone alarm clock to wake me up, as I kept on disabling mine and going back to sleep. That's where I discovered Power Sleep, which is exactly the same concept as BONIC for mobile. It was an alarm clock which crunched away while you were asleep so I thought I'd do my bit and partake in it.

Their project finished recently, so the app was essentially just an alarm clock now but I loved the idea of the project and wanted to find out if there were more like it. I found BONIC for mobile, but not long before that I broke the charging port on my phone. I now use an external battery charger but that doesn't matter because BONIC requires the charger to be plugged in all the time.

I figured something like that must be on PC and for gaming I have a high end systems. So, I found WCG a few days ago and have been running it in the background ever since, and plan to as long as possible. Currently looking into more smaller projects too, but that will be some time. :)

Re: What motivates you to participate and who have you recruited?

I started in 2009, attracted by the Clean Energy Project and concerns over global warming. I'd experimented with SETI@Home and ClimatePrediction.net before then, but the World Community Grid seemed to be a really worthwhile use of grid computing.

My wife died of ovarian cancer last year, and since then I've increased my crunching output and I now focus mainly on getting my Diamond 5 for CEP2 and the doing as much work as possible for the Mapping Cancer Markers project (11 years so far).
