I don't really know how VAT works for you guys, but my hope is that they wouldn't impose any special taxes like they do for cigs and alcohol here. People should be encouraged to move away from tobacco. You shouldn't penalize them for trying to quit or if not quit, at least be healthier.

for germany in 2014:
you pay around 5€ for one big-brand 19cig box. thereof are 2,92€ the state-imposed tobacco-tax, the VAT is another 0,80€. I remember the 3,80€-tag on a 20-pack back in 2006... |

Ok so the problem is that as e-cigs have gotten more traction, there have been increased problems.
----------------------------------------1.) Nicotine is a drug. It is addictive. In large doses, it can cause heart problems. Should be a no brainer to keep e-cig juice out of reach of children and animals and have it stored in child-proof containers (for the record, mine come in child proof containers with big lettering saying, you guessed it, "keep out of reach of children and animals"... just like aspirin But you also need to note that your average russet potato has about the same nicotine as a single cigarette 2.) In a perfect world e-cigs would only be used to ween people off of cigarettes to a life of quitting. We don't live in a perfect world. However, if you can get the nicotine from e-cigs without gaining all the other stuff that comes from smoking (the tar, the bad smells, the carcinogens) then I would think everyone should be jumping up and down for joy that we have e-cigs. And if teens are going to smoke cigarettes or vape e-cigs... better e-cigs. 3.) I've met virtually no one that says the industry should be unregulated. There is, however, different views on how it should be regulated. Tops of the list are that smoking age should equal e-cig use age. Smoking laws and sin taxes should not apply e-cig use. 4.) We need more studies done on e-cig usage. Not "does it help you quit" but more studies on the effects of e-cig use as well as some regulation on what goes into the juice.
