cool BOINC is not running.

After "Avast Free Antivirus" updated, I get the message, BOINC is not running. The computer is using Windows 7 Home Premium 2009, System 64-Bit. Original download for W. C. G. 12/27/13, Version 6.10.58

If any one has an answer, I am not Tech savvy, so please keep it simple.
Tnx.

Re: BOINC is not running.

Bring up the Avast application (it should be in your toolbar at the bottom of your screen, just left click on it.) Go to "settings" and then to "antivirus." Scroll down the screen and you should see a section marked "Exclusions." In that section put the path to the BOINC folder. This should allow BOINC to run without interference from your antivirus. I use Avast and the first time I ran BOINC after installing Avast, it asked me if it was OK to run, I clicked yes and it has run without problem ever since. Hope this helps.
Cheers

Re: BOINC is not running.

I have learned to be careful, or at least suspicious of AVs. Sometimes they don't even ask your permission, but just block a program by default if they don't recognize it as safe. It seems to help to run BOINC as a service, but watch out for problems with other programs in any case.

At the moment I am back to Microsoft Security Essentials on Win7 64-bit, which seems to be as safe as any. And I have had many more problems with AVs than with viruses over the years; or I should say potential viruses, since I have never had an actual infection, whether I used an AV or not.

Re: BOINC is not running.

It often appear on my WCG screen saver the next message: "BOINC is not running". I lose a lot of time with this message.
Is it my blame for this message or WCG's program?
What have I do to run BOINC again?

I have XP professional -32 bits as operating system and Bitdefender as Antivirus.
My installed BOINC version is 6.10.58

Re: BOINC is not running.

Hi pettud,

Start with upgrading your BOINC to version 7 from here (WCG Approved) or from here (BOINC Recommended) or from here (All BOINC versions)

Cheers

Hi Pettud,

Be careful with Windows XP, within a few weeks Microsoft will stop upgrading it. This means, it will be more sensitive to viruses.

2 days actually. Just get a good AV, a Firewall, use any browser other than IE and use common sense and people will be fine.

Are you kidding us? IE is the most secure browser on the market for Windows. Even older versions (e.g. the one for XP) is better solution than FireChicken (aka FireFox) - this one can be used only by real BFU's d oh

Opera is out of common sense, Chrome is somehow OK, but full of security/privacy holes, Safari is (unfortunately) not available for Windows (AFAIK) rolling eyes .

So my recommendation is to stick with IE and use Chrome as a secondary one for pages that can not be viewed in IE-for-XP.

Cheers peace

IE, the safest browser? How can you say that? The last version of IE for XP is 8, I think, and it is slow and unsecure. The best IE, from what I know, is IE11 which isn't available for XP. Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Safari are all much safer than IE, altough Firefox seems to have a few holes too. Chrome does have those privacy issues though and Opera is just a Chrome clone nowadays.

Re: BOINC is not running.

I already downloaded and installed BOINC version 7.2.47 from BOINC (Recommended) link and it is OK now.
My second device is a HP laptop with installed Vista as OS and PC Tools as antivirus.
I don't know why this device and version BOINC 6.10.58 only run Mapping Cancer Markers project, just if I selected 3 projekts when I installed WCG program.
Can I download and install the same BOINC 7.2. 47 version?
Also I'm going to use my Assus tablete as the third device with Android 4.0 as operating system installed,
Can I download and install WCG program with the same BOINC version 7,2.47?
Is it any advantaje here?
I hearded that tablets with android OS get 20 points a day only.
