I read everything I could - forums, news, etc. so one last try before disengage from WCG. I was processing work units just fine until 2/15 for one of my computers and 2/19 for the other. After those points I have not been able to download any work units from any projects. I have changes my settings several times but to no avail. I seem to remember some news about a change that was made here which required us to write some code or something and stick it somewhere? Any thoughts on why I stopped processing WCG work while every other DC projects I belong to have been going like gang busters. And please don't tell me the only answer is to write some code - ain't doin' it no how for nobody - I'll just ride off into the sunset. Thanks to anyone who has something helpful to say and doesn't just give me a list of links to click on and read from threads 3 years ago.

Writing code is probably something you misunderstood. You mention other projects (I'm assuming outside of WCG) are getting work just fine. Could you post your Event log from a fresh start of BOINC starting at the beginning. About the first 30 or 40 lines should be good. Also, please suspend all other projects for the purpose of testing. That way WCG should try to ask for work. I also ask that you do a manual update so that we can see what WCG servers reply with.
----------------------------------------Next, please give us some actual details of the system you are using and the settings you have chosen in the BOINC manager. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Coleslaw at Mar 18, 2014 3:20:21 AM] |

Thank you very much Mr. Coleslaw - I appreciate your efforts. First - here's my most recent log entry with manual attempts to contact WCG. Then next will be a fresh log entry with everything else suspended and attempts to contact WCG. Finally, some computer info and Boinc settings (I thought you could see the computers working but I guess that's just for non WCG projects).

The coleslaw post is clear what is required to force the hand, for your log clearly prints
3/18/2014 7:23:21 PM | World Community Grid | update requested by user 3/18/2014 7:23:21 PM | World Community Grid | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. 3/18/2014 7:23:21 PM | World Community Grid | Not requesting tasks: don't need 3/18/2014 7:23:28 PM | World Community Grid | Scheduler request completed Which means cache full already, your other active projects taking all time , plus you've got multiday cpdn in there. If your buffer is set to 1 day on a 4 core device with the climate job taking 5 days this equates to 1.25 days per core. Boinc might think your buffer is full and only fetch minimal work to keep all cores busy. Might, because the work fetch rules seem to change with every release. Btw, posting in all red text could cause allergic reactions to some who came from united devices. Not advisable. |

lavaflow is correct in my opinion and was pointing out what I was thinking. The CPDN work can sometimes throw off work fetch. However, I don't see any work units starting from that log but rather requesting work. That would mean that CPDN probably has priority right now. Also, with that many projects, it is possible WCG had used up its resource share and was giving the other projects time to catch up. Your second log, as you stated, does not have a response from the WCG server. I would try that scenario again, but do a full computer restart and then check the event viewer. Sometimes BOINC Manager gets flaky. I have seen it get hung up on update requests a zillion times randomly for unknown reasons. It eventually comes out of it, but no telling when. Perhaps finishing your other work first and see what happens. Set them for No New Tasks and wait for the work to finish. Then see if WCG starts asking for work again.

Yeah hey thanks Mssrs Coleslaw and Lavaflow. I did what you suggested - set all non-WCG projects to accept 'no new tasks' and let all existing work units finish and upload, leaving my tasks window empty and blank. I tried numerous times at different hours to request WCG work and left it on all night to do its own thing. After 24 hours of requesting work I got zero, zilch. So with gratitude for your willingness to help I'll invest no more time or energy to try to get this thing working again - I'll just focus on the non-WCG projects that DO work for me. Sorry I couldn't process more for WCG but - gotta go where the wok units are fighting for attention. Disengaging.
