Is there already such a thread? (Please redirect me/bump it/sticky it if so.)
My current issues: * Website gets confused as to whether I'm logged in or not. After I edit a forum post, the Log In / Log Out option at the top left of the screen changes to "Log In", but I can still re-edit my post, so I'm still logged in. I'm not sure of the exact other circumstances where this occurs, and it seems to be a bit random, eg I just looked at thread What went wrong? . From there I followed the link to the News section in EricaT's posts, and the top left said "Log In". If I now click the News button in the heading of a forum page, I get "Log Out". And so on ... Now I'm all confused as to whether I'm logged in or out, or Arthur, or Martha. * Sometimes one has to log in to view the forum, sometimes not. * Website style issue: There is inconsistency in how text that has a link under it is marked. (I am not a fan of the current new fashion of not marking such links at all). Example: On the current "Post new thread" page, we have "Log Out" and "Download" in bold black, no other link clue. "Help" and "Settings" are in plain black, "Forums" in plain red, no other link clue. On the same line, in the same black font are "Welcome back," and "Accumulated Points: nnnn" and these are not links. I have to move my mouse onto these to determine which are links, which slows down navigation of the site. Under the WCG logo, we then have 2 rows of headings, not really buttons, but their titles and distinctive formats make it obvious that they are links. Having 2 instances of "Search" on the 2nd of these lines is very confusing. Next we have a little site-navigation place-marker doo-dad that says "World Community Grid Forums <newline><indent> Category: Support <newline><indent> Forum: Website Support <newline><indent> Post new thread" The links in this are in blue (subtractively mixed with the cream page background)), bold but are not underlined. Consistent with some of the later WWW and other HTML documents. Inconsistent with the black links on the top of the page, and inconsistent with links in the forum threads which are the same colour, but are also underlined as per the older industry standard. Perhaps the number of link styles could be reduced, eg make them all blue, and use a marker other than red font to indicate which is the current section. ---- The strange idea of splitting members' records into "My Contribution" and "Settings" has been discussed elsewhere. ---- * A pet hate: Computer screens that display "my" when they are referring to something that belongs to the reader Example: The computer says "My Contribution", referring to the member's contribution. If the computer is doing the talking, it should say "Your Contribution". Avoid the issue by being more specific: "WCG's Contribution", "Member's Contribution", or "<member name>'s Contribution" ---oo--- |

Website gets confused as to whether I'm logged in or not. I think there is an inactivity timeout after which the login button changes from log out to log in, although already and still logged in. I only noticed this on the forum page, not sure if it applies to the other sites. I'd like to add to the list to bring back the link to the device manager on the left side menu. |

* Date Formats:
----------------------------------------Most dates are shown as dd/mm/yy or dd/mm/yyyy (for UK) but on Member Statistics History and Device Statistics the detail lines show mm/dd/yyyy (the Statistics Last Updated heading on those pages show as dd/mm/yy). (edit) Just noticed Created: on Workunit Status is mm/dd/yyyy but Sent/Due/Return times are dd/mm/yy. Paul.

@PMH_UK: Dates are local time & local format in the forum if you are logged on, UTC and mm/dd/yy if not.
Results Status pages are UTC and mm/dd/yy. In "My Stats", "registered Member Since" and "Last Result Returned" are in local time & format, "Stats Last Updated" is in local format but is UTC and is flagged as such. Hadn't noticed the Member Stats History & Dev Stats pages, but you are right. It's a bit of a mixture, and could do with some tweaking, including a few more "(UTC)" notices where appropriate. I assume that local date format is picked up from our computers' O/S settings. No wonder the Americans are so dizzy - reading the date by starting in the middle (dd), moving to the left (mm), then skipping to the right (yy) gets me that way, anyway ![]() |

I know this is not possible in all cases, but where confusion may exist an easy to read legend should be available so the reader knows in what format the date is written. Cheers

Why my screensaver doesn't run the second program selected by default
FightAIDS@Home? It only runs Mapping Cancer Markers. I chosen as my screensaver World Community Grid program. Sincerely, Petre Tudor mailto:pettud@yahoo.com |

Hi pettud,
----------------------------------------You can disable the screensaver because it only wastes processing time, if you want to, of course. Do you have Mapping Cancer Markers selected in your profile? ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |
