"Fetching scheduler list" [RESOLVED]

I am trying to connect a new PC running BOINC 7.3.2 under WinXP (have also tried the released 7.2.39 with the same results). When I try to connect, all I get is a "Fetching scheduler list" message. After that, it simply defers the next connection attempt for 24 hours. I have 5 other PCs on the LAN, running Win7 64-bit and WinXP, which work with no problem. I have also disabled the WinXP firewall on the problem machine. Finally, I have done a tracert from the problem machine to "www.worldcommunitygrid.org", and get the same path as the machines that work properly.

Any suggestions?

Re: "Fetching scheduler list"

There is a problem with the language setting in BOINC Manager ver. 7.2.39 and it may be present in 7.3.2 as well (I haven't tested that one).

Try downloading the following version of the Manager in the provided link. It is a zip file, just rename the existing boincmgr.exe and then extract the one in the zip to your boinc Program Files folder. Start the new Manager, set the language to your choice, exit the Manager, then start the Manager one more time and the language setting with be straightened out.

Re: "Fetching scheduler list"

BobCat13,

Thanks a lot for the reply. But I got an error message when trying to run that other boincmgr.exe that it was not the right version (apparently it is 7.2.41). So I uninstalled BOINC and went back to the older version 7.0.64, which has always worked before, but got stuck at the same "Fetching scheduler list" message. And I don't see a selection of language list anyway, maybe because my PC is set up for English?

Now I am wondering if it is a server problem.

EDIT: OK, I got it working by removing the WCG project and then adding it back. Also, I changed the name of my PC. That is because it had Linux on it before, and I had a suspicion that WCG was looking for that instead of WinXP. Curiously, I had tried each of those changes by themselves before, and they did not work. But trying both together (along with going back to 7.0.64) did the job.

I hope (and expect) that it is straightened out for good now.
