Run Time Says 000, Cannot get Started!!!

My computer has been running, and I have been logged in, for two days; yet my run time says 000. I am a newbie, and think I must be doing something wrong. I have watched the videos and read many, many threads, including the link you posted above. I have windows 8, downloaded the software required, but am not sure what to do next. I have the cancer and the Aids projects checked, but see nothing on my computer indicating it is working. I am so anxious to get started! Please advise. Thanks so much, Maddy

Hi and welcome Maddy,

When you go to this page do you see anything? Any tasks in progress, pending validation, etc.

Open BOINC, click "View" in the Menu Bar, select "Advanced View" and open the "Projects Tab". If you see World Community Grid there, make sure it is attached to this account "Maddy56" and not another account you may have created by mistake.
Also, go to "Advanced" in the Menu Bar and select Event Log. Copy and paste all the text you see there and post it here.

Re: Run Time Says 000, Cannot get Started!!!

I am going to try that. But I did go back to the download, double clicked, and realized I had not installed it. So I tried, but half-way through, it stated, 'failed to add user to the 'boinc_admins' group (Boinc Master). I cannot find that. Do you think that is the problem? Then I thought maybe I should install the Liynx (SP), so I did that. Is that download something I need?

I went to the page and, NO, I did not see anything. I am so sorry, but I don't know how to open Boinc.

What version are you trying to install? Is it the one here, 6.10.58?

If it is, install this one instead.

Re: Run Time Says 000, Cannot get Started!!!

Well, not yet..LOL. I still have a couple of questions.... I do not have anything that looks like this above on my site. Should I just wait for that? Also, under projects, it does seem to be running, but how do I comment to make Activity Points. Sorry, but once I get started, I am sure I won't have to ask so many questions. Thanks so much.

Re: Run Time Says 000, Cannot get Started!!!

If you are referring to the Compumatrix team, it would be best if you ask them instead. I know nothing about them or how to earn those "activity points". To make you sure you are getting and processing tasks, go to the page I told you in an earlier post and see if there any tasks there. If there are, then BOINC is configured correctly and will run with the default settings or the ones you specified.

Re: Run Time Says 000, Cannot get Started!!!

I do have tasks running, and I guess this run time configuration will show up at a later time, correct? The black thing above.
